This charming period property is a former gatekeeper's cottage for the old Coppermine Valley rail line, and a peaceful rural retreat. It’s located just half a mile from the pretty village of Coniston with its many shops, pubs and restaurants. It can accommodate four people and two dogs, making it perfect for those looking to explore the surrounding fells and lakes on foot.
This period property dates back to 1850 and is full of original features, which combined with comfortable furnishings and tasteful decor, create a real home-from-home. A short single-track lane leads you to the cottage and several stone steps lead from there to the patio garden and front door. The open-plan living space with flagstone floor has plenty of character, with a stylish kitchen that’s ideal for whipping up a snack. Exposed beams and a cosy open fire make the lounge area an inviting space for you all to unwind after a busy day of walking. A short flight of relatively steep cottage style stairs (with a good solid handrail) lead to the first floor where you’ll find one of the understated and restful bedrooms, a double. A further flight leads to a lovely twin room, which sits in the eaves of the house so has slightly restricted height. The dogs can roam freely in the enclosed garden, while you relax with a drink and perhaps something to eat.
Coniston Water is within walking distance and is a super place to enjoy a range of water sports such as canoeing, sailing and paddleboarding. The surrounding countryside offers many walks and rambles which you can follow from your doorstep, while those looking for something a little hardier will enjoy climbing the Old Man of Coniston fell (1.5 miles). Hawkshead (4.5 miles) is great for a meander around the shops before stopping off to explore the Beatrix Potter Gallery.
