A warm welcome awaits you in this gorgeous character cottage for two, which is situated on the private Atkinson Ground Estate, close to Coniston Water. Keen walkers will particularly love this area as there are some spectacular mountain and lakeside walks on the doorstep. One dog is welcome too, so they don’t need to miss out on any of the fun.
Oozing old-world charm, this delightful home combines original features with some tasteful contemporary updates. An oak front door opens into an open-plan kitchen/diner, with traditional exposed beams. Rustle up a romantic meal in here, before pouring yourselves a glass of wine and taking a seat at the dining table. Stairs lead up to a warm and welcoming lounge, with a cosy wood burner throwing out some heat on chillier evenings, as you snuggle up to watch a film. When it’s time to rest, retreat to the stylish bedroom, which is reached via a further set of stairs. Tastefully decorated in neutral tones, it features a slanted ceiling and decorative fireplace, while the bathroom is located next door and boasts a fabulous whirlpool bath for soothing tired muscles after a day of hiking. Fire up the BBQ in the small patio area to the front of the cottage, which is a peaceful spot to unwind.
Get a bite to eat at the local pub, 1.5 miles away. Explore the shores of Coniston Water on foot or hop on one of the many boat trips that operate. Varying fitness levels are catered for at the Old Man of Coniston (3 miles), which has different routes you can follow to the summit. For a more sedate pace, pop into Hawkshead (2.5 miles) and wander around its cobbled streets and shops. The Beatrix Potter Gallery is also popular with visitors.
