This two-person cottage in Hawkshead is the most idyllic bolthole for solo breaks and romantic escapes. Enjoying a central location in the village itself and sat betwixt the awe-inspiring beauty spots of Coniston Water, Esthwaite Water and Windermere, you will be able to spend ample time exploring the surrounds, tucking into local cuisine and simply enjoying the delights of the Lake District. Just meters from great local shops, restaurants and heritage buildings, you will quickly see why the great William Wordsworth spent himself so much time staying near this cottage!
Wander through the shared courtyard and into the porch, before heading into the open-plan lounge/diner. The heart of the home, this room boasts eye-catching original features, with exposed beams and a chunky lintel. Warmed by the striking wood burner, you can spend many an evening here curled up with a book or watching your favourite series courtesy of the Smart TV. For meals at home, the attractive and well-appointed kitchen boasts generous facilities and space for food prep, while the dining table lends a sense of ceremony to homecooked meals. Waiting to soothe tired limbs after hours of walking, you will also find a bathroom with a roll-top bath and a bedroom up the cottage-style stairs.
With so much within walking distance of your door, you can spend hours exploring the local gems – including the local 1-mile walk to the North Fen National Nature Reserve above the beautiful Esthwaite Water. Further afield, you can drive the 4 miles to Coniston with its famous lake and wide array of shops, and the 4 miles to Mitchell Wyke Ferry for a boat trip across Windermere. For a nostalgic trip down memory lane, a visit to the National Trust-run Hill Top is a must, the former home of Beatrix Potter (2.5 miles).
