  • 0.5 miles from the local shop and pub, with hundreds of fell and riverside walks from the doorstep
  • Open fire inside and enclosed garden with valley views outside
Property code: SZ403

In an enviable position in Eskdale Green at the mouth of the Miterdale valley, this historic property is brimming with character throughout, from its stone mullion windows to its open fire.

The quaint village of Eskdale is a great base from which to explore the western reaches of the Lake District National Park. Home to no less than five pubs, one of which is just 0.5 miles away, and a handy village store, Eskdale is also an excellent starting point for many walks. Enjoy a leisurely stroll into the Japanese Garden in the forest, or embark on a more challenging walk as you take on Harter Fell or even Scafell Pike. Or, for cyclists, mountain biking and forest trails can be found in the Wasdale and Duddon Valleys, 7 and 11 miles away; meanwhile, roadies will be in their element as they tackle some of England’s steepest roads. Head for the coast with a trip to Drigg beach, 7 miles away, or take in some local history at Muncaster Castle, just 4.5 miles away and a great day out for all ages.

Inside, this period property has been tastefully modernised to offer fresh neutral decor, contemporary appliances and a homely feel throughout. Rustle up meals in the chic and modern kitchen, where beautiful views can be enjoyed from the kitchen sink. The kitchen is well-equipped with an electric oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, Nespresso Inissia coffee capsule machine and Aeroccino3 milk frother. Once prepared, enjoy meals in the separate dining room which benefits from an open fire, perfect for those chillier evenings. The lounge is spacious and light with a large stone mullion window, open fire and Smart TV – the perfect place to relax and unwind after long walks or cycle rides. A WC completes the ground-floor accommodation. Upstairs are three bedrooms: one double with an en-suite shower room, one twin and one single. There is also a bathroom with a shower over the bath.

Stepping outside, a pretty patio area provides a peaceful spot for enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning sunshine while, to the rear, a beautifully mature enclosed garden offers spectacular views up the valley. There is parking for two cars opposite the cottage, with further parking available down the road.

Great cottage in a quite area with one small post office come shop that carrys everything you will need. Pubs around the area but very hard to get food after 7pm so eat early or you mite need to go out for a hour to get food or you could cook at home. You are in the middle of everything so easy to get to places.

Lovely, comfortable, well equipped cottage in a good location. I was surprised to find on arrival that we had to be out by 9.30 after all the booking details had said 10am, especially after arrival time was much later (5pm) than all other cottages we have stayed in.

A really interesting house with some lovely architecture and period features and a large garden for people and dogs. Beautifully situated in the Esk valley, walks from the door and near Irton Road Station for photo opportunities or a short train ride to Dalegarth. Unfortunately the double bed is uncomfortable.
