With waterside walks and fell-top adventures close to home, enjoy days in the great outdoors before returning home to get cosy in this traditional bolthole.

Enjoy the perfect family day out and hop on the Eskdale and Ravenglass Railway, otherwise known as the La’al Ratty. Make the 7-mile trip to the coast where you can wander the estuary and fill your lungs with sea air. Stay closer to home and walk 2 miles to Burnmoor Tarn or simply stroll the banks of the River Esk and enjoy a refreshing paddle. Tuck into lunch at one of the local pubs or savour a cold drink in the sun. A 6-mile drive takes you to the Stanley Ghyll waterfall where you can be brave and head in for a dip or just admire the tumbling water from afar.

Head inside this rustic cottage and make your way into the lounge where you can take a seat in front of the TV and watch a DVD. A sofa and a pair of armchairs provide each guest with somewhere to curl up and get cosy by the coal-effect electric fire. The kitchen/diner features a dining table for four, an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge with large freezer compartment, slimline dishwasher and washer/dryer. There is plenty of storage space for ingredients and goodies so you can stay well-stocked during your holiday. The two bedrooms are located on the first floor. The spacious king-size room boasts lovely views, and the twin bedroom has a sweet, country-cottage feel. Freshen up in the family bathroom where there is a corner bath with shower over the bath.

Perfect for your morning coffee, the patio catches the early morning sun so you can start your day with a breath of fresh air and a warming drink. There is garden furniture so you can sit and admire the views of the Eskdale Valley. There is on-road parking in front of the house.

The location is ideal for exploring Eskdale and the coast and the cottage is in a very scenic area. We found the cottage to be very comfortable, well equipped and quite spacious, even for a family of four. The only downside being that the furnishings are a little dated but perfectly functional.
