  • Period features throughout and enclosed garden
  • Easy access to fells, lowland walks and tourist attractions
Property code: SZ503

Situated in a lovely village in the Eskdale Valley, there are plenty of walking routes to enjoy. A trail into the lovely Japanese Garden and Giggle Alley is accessible right from the doorstep. The valley has unspoilt views all around and cyclists will also enjoy the many routes, especially the Eskdale Trail. The magical Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway passes nearby, too. Head to the stunning Stanley Ghyll Waterfall just 4.5 miles away, or visit the magnificent, imposing Muncaster Castle, 5 miles. Climb the heights of Scafell Pike only 9 miles away, visit Wast Water at 7 miles, or head to the pretty coastal village of Seascale which is an 8-mile drive.

This pretty romantic bolthole is an apartment in a large house originally developed in 1886. It’s a comfortable space that is well furnished and decorated. The large porch has plenty of space for boots, wellies and coats before you head into the open-plan living/dining and kitchen area. Cosy down in front of the open fire on the sofa for a relaxing evening in. There is a TV with a DVD player to keep you entertained, or you could simply enjoy the views towards Corney Fell. At one end of this area is a dining table with four chairs. The wooden-panelled kitchen is spacious and well-equipped with an oven, hob, fridge and microwave. Head through to the bedroom where there is a beautiful ornamental fireplace and a wooden double bed. There’s also a dressing table and wardrobe. The large bathroom has a WC and shower over the bath.

Outside is a marvellous, enclosed garden space. It’s a real sun trap and a great place for a morning coffee or evening glass of wine. There’s a seating area with a parasol surrounded by beautiful shrubs and trees, and space on the lawn to play games. Parking for one car is available on a driveway to the front of the apartment and there is also secure bike storage for those who are bringing bicycles. A convenience shop and two pubs are within 300 metres.

We had a lovely relaxing stay. The cottage was very cosy , especially with the open fire and in a great location for walking. I feel the cottage is lacking in a bit of love and care .that said I would recommend to a friend

We had a lovely week in The Old Post Office. Lots of walks on our doorstep and a village shop open 7 days a week just 10 steps away. The owner was helpful and quick to respond to queries. The lockbox was a godsend as we were very late arriving at the cottage.

Lovely location and well planned out but small unit. Excellent for dogs but most walks restricted by livestock. Unfortunately not comfortable stay due to poor furniture , chilly evenings and noise from above flat. Minimal acoustic deadening in building separation. Love to revisit when owner makes improvements.

Plenty of space for two. The Old Post Office is in the perfect location - with the shop and two pubs nearby. It is an ideal base for walking in Eskdale valley. The kitchen is well equipped, the bed is comfy and the shower is good.

The driving instructions were spot from driving from the north. Unfortunately when we arrived someone was parked in the designated parking spot. Owner contacted and resolved. No hot water for bath, shower and sinks. Cosy sitting room, kitchen is well equipped. Bedroom is very spacious with plenty of storage. Good sized bathroom space for drying cloRead morethes. Well stocked shop opposite, pub within walking distance, on the road for a section bring a torch! Location is fantastic exploring eskdale. Hide

Perfect location in beautiful area and a good sized cottage for two. Ideal place for keen walkers plus close to shop and some good pubs. However, rather lacking in comfort: hard bed and uncomfortable sofa and chairs.

Cottage set in a superb area for visiting surrounding fells. Great location with walks from the door or short car journeys to Stanley Ghyll waterfall, Eskdale Railway and Wast Water. We enjoyed our stay at the Old Post Office. It was a comfortable size for two people, however it let itself down by having the most uncomfortable chair and sofa in theRead more living room, It could also have had a deep clean as it showed signs of neglect in certain areas such as lighting, kitchen bin and outdoor porch. This small cottage is cosy, well equipped and in an excellent location with plenty of walking options straight from the door. However, the bed, whilst appearing sound and firm, gave us both back ache, the settee and chair are very uncomfortable and it would appear you have limited hot water from the immersion heater (enough for two very quick showeRead morers and a bit of washing up) with no 'boost' option should you require more. There is also a lot of noise transmission from the flat above. Hide
