A light yet cosy cottage beautifully located to explore the Cumbrian Coast and the western Lake District. The perfect getaway for families or friends who are keen walkers.

Set on the edge of the Lake District near Haile, this wonderfully appointed cottage is surrounded by natural beauty. At your doorstep, you can enjoy walks or even horse riding up to Cold Fell or venture further afield to the Ennerdale valley and lake with a variety of fells surrounding it. You can also access some of the Lake District’s iconic peaks such as Scafell Pike which is 14 miles away. Head to the coast for a seaside day trip, with the Georgian harbour town of Whitehaven 8 miles away, or St Bees 5 miles away which has a delightful little beach and marks the start of Wainwright’s Coast to Coast walk.

This converted barn makes excellent use of light and space with its reverse level layout. Through the front door, you’ll find a stone floor hallway that leads to the three bedrooms. The master bedroom enjoys access to the garden through French doors as well as an en-suite shower room. A second double bedroom and twin bedroom also have a door out to the garden. There is a family bathroom with a bath and separate shower and a utility room with a washing machine and dryer to complete the ground floor. Upstairs is the open-plan living space with a beamed ceiling and wooden flooring. Tucked under the mezzanine is the cosy sitting room with comfortable sofas and a wood burner for colder evenings. Up two steps is the modern, well-equipped kitchen with an electric cooker and hob, a fridge with an icebox, a microwave and a dishwasher, as well as an island with a breakfast bar. The dining area looks out through the double doors onto the balcony, where there is also a table and chairs for al fresco dining. In the mezzanine up a set of stairs is a further sitting room with a TV, DVD player, iPod docking station and a radio, plus a unique window that lets in plenty of light and provides wonderful countryside views.

From the sunny decked balcony, which is perfect for warm afternoons, stairs lead down to the partially enclosed terraced garden, with raised beds, a pond, and a further seating area.

Great location, internal space is generous. A few minor issues during our stay of which at least the first seems like it hasn't been addressed from an earlier time. E.g. Toilet cistern needs replacing, flagged to us but plumber never turned up. Didn't matter as there are other toilets but the property is tired, needs a bit of tlc. E.g. Decorating (Read morewalls & upstairs floors) and replacing equipment. Microwave, jacuzzi bath not working. Tiny TV! Wooden worktops need replacing with modern material. Hide

Couldnt give it any more than 4 stars because the toilet upstairs was broken - there are 2 more toilets down stairs but the stairs are narrow and steep so not ideal. Also the neighbouring property is also a holiday let and they have total access to the garden and us to theirs. Also there is a stable gate between the too and the top is padlocked (ruRead morested) open so if you need to use the garden there is zero privacy Hide

A very nice holiday home in a quiet location tucked away in the countryside. Ample space for 6 people and well equipped, with the exception of there being no tumble dryer. We would be happy to stay there again, when in the area.

Absolutely gorgeous property, lovely and clean, unique and comfy. Really really happy with our stay and would absolutely recommend! A beautiful place. Good location for the North West Lakes. The cottage is stunning with it's high ceiling, mezzanine floor and beautiful doors out to the garden and decked area, yet it feels cozy of an evening. Comfortable beds, good showers and comfy sofas. We really enjoyed our stay in Hall Garth. We were pleasantly surprised at the high standard of the accommodation, it more than met our needs, including two teenagers. The garden was beautiful as were the views from the upper levels of the house. The 'upside-down' layout worked perfectly. Beautiful, spacious and incredibly comfortable property in quiet surroundings but close enough to conveniences. A really lovely open plan and well equipped cottage in a beautiful rural location. Great views of the countryside and garden. A perfection location for the quieter side of the lakes. Easy access to Ennerdale Water and Wastwater, Ravenglass railway and Cockermouth. Would highly recommend and would stay again.

A lovely place to stay in a quiet village, yet near enough to the A595 to get out exploring. To which there are many places, lovely lakes without the crowds and beaches. When back one can sit out on the terrace admiring the lovely garden. Also liked the set up of the house, bedrooms ground flour, lounge and kitchen, then tv lounge on a mezzanine.
