With plenty of exciting walks straight from your door, lace up your boots and leave the car behind. There are trails leading to Helvellyn, St Sunday Crag and Fairfield, so reward your ascents with panoramic views and peak-top picnics, or head into the village of Patterdale (1.5 miles) for a bite to eat. Less than 2 miles from home, the lakeside, bustling village of Glenridding sits on the banks of Ullswater where you can enjoy a leisurely cruise with your dog on a steamer or make a splash and hire your own boat. The fabulous Aira Force waterfall is well worth a trip and is just 4.5 miles away.
Tread the gravel path from the parking area, close the gate behind you and head inside via the porch to make yourself at home. Step down a couple of steps and into the entrance hall where underfloor heating keeps your feet warm once you’ve left boots and coats on the rack or the hook. The utility room is well-equipped with a washing machine, dryer, iron, ironing board drying rack and WC. Step up through another door to the kitchen/diner where the underfloor heating continues, and the exposed beams and farmhouse charm welcome you inside. Make use of the island when preparing meals and create feasts in the Rangemaster double oven with a six-ring hob. Complete with an American-style fridge/freezer, dishwasher and all the space you need to store ingredients, you should find all you require to serve up a delicious meal. The wood burner-effect gas fire will keep you warm whilst you dine in style at the extendable dining table which seats eight. After dinner, head through to the rear of the property via a hallway with a bench and a boot rack and original door leading to the garden. Step up and into the lounge via a door and relax for a while on the comfortable sofas perfectly arranged around the wood burner which sits in the feature fireplace. Despite there being no TV reception at this bolthole, switch on the TV to watch DVDs (on the DVD HDMI player) or listen to music on the CD player whilst sitting on the window seat and taking in the views. For a moment of peace and quiet, a door leads to the snug where a pair of chairs and a selection of books and games await. When it’s time for bed, four bedrooms reside on the first floor. A door in the lounge leads to a slate spiral staircase - a beautiful original feature that must be trodden with care due to uneven, worn treads. Once at the top of the stairs, find two double bedrooms and two twins. The first double bedroom has an en-suite shower room, reached via a step up, with walk-in shower (also reached via a step up), and WC. The second double bedroom has a quirky sloping floor. Adjacent to this double bedroom, a low beam sits in an alcove that leads to the WC with a sloping ceiling. The family bathroom has a sloping ceiling too and offers you somewhere to soak in the bath or freshen up in the walk-in shower.
Boasting fantastic views, the enclosed garden is the perfect spot for a breath of fresh air and somewhere to enjoy a cup of tea. The rugged lawn is great for dogs to stretch their legs and the furniture provides you with the option to dine alfresco. Fire up the BBQ (provide your own fuel) for a sizzling sundowner feast. Take care to keep the gates closed (grazing livestock in field). There is parking in the car park, over the stream from the door.
