Sleeping 18 guests across nine bedrooms, this luxury Lake District accommodation is the perfect place to mark family birthdays, or simply to enjoy a holiday escape together.

This refurbished dog-friendly property offers contemporary comforts and original period features. Tucked away on a leafy country lane, it’s just 2 miles from Cockermouth with its pubs, arts, and heritage attractions. Hike nearby Lorton (7.5 miles) valley; discover mountain bike trails in Whinlatter Forest (9.5 miles) or enjoy leisurely ambles in Dodd Wood (14 miles). Source garden inspiration at Mirehouse (12 miles), a country estate with formal displays, a maze, and poetry walk. Sail Derwentwater (15 miles), or head for the fairways of coastal Maryport Golf Club (6.5 miles), where you can also visit the Senhouse Roman Museum. Explore the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - a haven for wildlife enthusiasts (9 miles).

Head up the long driveway, and step inside the entrance hall. Store coats and boots in the cloakroom near the car park door entrance. And there’s a convenient ground floor WC along the hall. Settle into the snug room sofas and enjoy reading, games, and film time. Stay warm by the toasty wood burner and enjoy the selection of books, boardgames, or DVDs to watch on the TV and DVD player. Curl up on the window seat with a good book or enjoy a game of pool. Relax in the bright and airy open-plan dining, living, and conservatory room with its floor-to-ceiling windows and spectacular views towards Skiddaw, Grasmoor and Buttermere. Unwind in the living area on squishy sofas and armchairs by the warmth of a wood burner (first basket of logs included) and listen to your favourite tracks on the Sonos music system. Create delicious feasts in the well-equipped kitchen which can be separated from the living area by sliding doors. The kitchen includes an electric Aga, fridge/freezer, microwave, two dishwashers, and a handy boiling hot water tap. Gather around the oak dining table and catch up on the day. You’ll also find a utility room on this floor with a washing machine, and tumble dryer. Head upstairs to the half-landing area which splits into two separate short flights of stairs towards the bedrooms and bathrooms. There are four doubles (two with en-suite shower rooms - each with a shower and WC); and three twins (one with an en-suite shower room - shower and WC); plus three family bathrooms (one shower room with a shower and WC; and two bathrooms, each with a bath and WC). Finally, there’s a super-king-size bedroom with a Bose music system, a free-standing copper bath, plus an en-suite shower room (with a shower and WC), and a private balcony with a table and chairs. All of the bedrooms have views over the garden towards the fells and valleys beyond.

There’s a magnificent coach house on site which accommodates two further guests in your group, a unique hideaway in the grounds. Step up to the arched property entrance and into the living area where you can enjoy TV with Freeview by a cosy wood burner; there’s Wi-fI, tea/coffee making facilities and a mini-fridge. A short flight of stairs leads from the living area to the double bedroom which benefits from views and en-suite shower room (with a shower and WC); and outside there’s a private terrace.

You’ll find six acres of landscaped gardens with lake and river views to enjoy here - designed by highly regarded international landscape and garden designer Thomas Mawson in 1910. French doors lead out from the main property to a kitchen garden with a vegetable path and herb garden. There are two stone summerhouses, a seating and BBQ area, and an orchard with a children’s playground and a front lawned area. Parking is available for up to seven cars at the rear of the main property. There’s a pub within a mile, shops and town amenities less than 2 miles away, and the coast is within 7 miles.

We rented the house for a birthday celebration and it was perfect. The large room downstairs with the amazing dining table, adjoining kitchen and lounge was fantastic. The pool table/tv room was a great addition.

Wood Hall was the perfect location for us to celebrate our Grandma's 80th birthday. The house itself is stunning, spacious and has everything you need to relax. The views are stunning and the area friendly. Thank you for a wonderful few nights away. We loved it and would come back again.

The house is very spacious, warm and comfortable, clean but not pristine - thats ok though when they accept dogs. The kitchen is well appointed. The master bedroom has a view to die for (and a fairly firm bed). Didnt find any board games for the wet days, but the pool table was well used.
