The surrounding countryside has literacy connections having inspired the works of Beatrix Potter, so you’ll soon be losing yourself amongst the mountainous landscape as you venture further into the Newlands Valley. A short 5.5-mile walk will bring you to beautiful Derwentwater, where you can enjoy a quiet walk around the shoreline or embrace your adventurous side and try popular water sports such as sailing and kayaking. Further afield, Whinlatter Forest is a must for cycling and walking 4.5 miles away, while foodies and retail therapy enthusiasts will appreciate Keswick with its numerous eateries and independent shops 4 miles away.

Follow the gravelled pathway and step through the porch to discover a cosy sitting room with a feature fireplace, a wood burner and comfortable sofas, just the ticket for cosy evenings curled up inside making use of the TV and DVD. Next, the simply presented kitchen is equipped with an electric oven, halogen hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and a washer/dryer for all your culinary and laundry needs. There is a dining table with seating for six, and completing the ground floor is an additional WC. Upstairs, the spacious bathroom has a shower over the bath and a WC. Three bedrooms provide cosy sleeping quarters for your entire party, offering a choice between two double bedrooms or a pretty twin and all offer fell views of Causey Pike or Catbells.

A pleasant patio with seating offers a tranquil setting for al fresco meals and excellent views. There is ample lawn space, and to the rear of the garden there is a path through a small patch of woodland with a mill pond and access to the nearby river through a back gate. Fantastic cottage in an amazing location. The Newlands Valley is the best in the Lakes in my opinion. Views of Catbells, Causey Pike and Barrow from the cottage, all of which we hiked. Owners very friendly and helpful. Will go again at some point.

We loved our stay at Mill Cottage! The cottage was spotless and well-equipped. There was lots of space to eat and relax and we enjoyed sitting out in the sun on our private patio. Great walking trails to Causey Pike, etc. from the house, and the hosts were very attentive and welcoming. Well be back!
