Lovely walks from the cottage up Skiddaw/ Latrigg / Dodd - no need for a car for any of these. Nearest pub is in Keswick which is a field and footpath walk (unless you do main roads) - tricky in the dark home. One footpath crosses the A66 so best to do longer walk via Cumbria Way and footbridge. Lovely relaxing sitting room but you can only see theRead more (stunning) views standing up and no views from other windows downstairs. Great fire and cosy in the evening. Parking is tight but can be mastered! Hide

This is a lovely house in a fabulous location. Applethwaite is a tiny hamlet, but only 5 minutes drive from central Keswick. Very well equipped, spacious and comfortable. Weve stayed here for 5 years in a row and would highly recommend it.

Beautiful cottage in a great location. Large enough for the whole family and our dogs! The kitchen and living room are lovely with all the equipment you need. The bedrooms (except the master bedroom) are small and the beds are not the most comfortable. The house could be cleaner in areas too. A fantastic cottage situated in an idyllic location with great access to the local walks around the lakes and hills surrounding Keswick and Bassenwhaite. It was the perfect size and location for our party of 8 adults and our neighbours were friendly and welcoming also.

Lovely location in a quiet area. Well equipped cottage for self caterers. Great area to explore and enjoy. Would have given it 10 out of 10, except you are required to bring your own towels.

Beautiful cottage in a great location. Clean and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen. We loved the space in the kitchen/dining room and the huge lounge was perfect for games nights. The village is very quiet and has no facilities other than a little honesty stall selling things like cake, orange juice & eggs. There are several walks from the dRead moreoor including Skiddaw. The car parking space was managable (with a Nissan Leaf and a Peugeot 206). Thank you for a great week. Hide

Lovely traditional cottage in a beautiful setting. The cleanliness of the lounge was the only thing that we had an issue with and more attention to sofas and rugs following a dog staying is needed as we were regularly covered in black dog hairs.

We have stayed at Scar Cottage several times - returning each year to reunite with old University friends and our children. The layout of the cottage works really well for this set-up (one group in the lounge, one in the kitchen) and the location in Applethwaite is perfect (close to Keswick but quiet).
