With miles of footpaths and cycle trails through valleys and mountains, this delightful cottage for seven is bursting with characterfully décor and charm and is ideal for walkers and nature enthusiasts.

Lorton is ideally placed to enjoy the great outdoors. Bring the bikes or just take your walking boots and head into Whinlatter Forest Park to find graded cycling and walking trails for all abilities, a popular cafe and a play park. Thrill seekers will love the high ropes course. For lakeside strolls, a picnic, a wild swim or a paddle Crummock Water is 5 miles down the road. The pub in the village serves good food and real ales, the shop sells locally sourced food for your basics and there is a tea room. The Georgian town of Cockermouth is 5 miles away and has a variety of independent and antique shops, cafés and restaurants. Outdoor enthusiasts will love Whinlatter Forest Park, 3.5 miles away, for its array of mountain biking tracks, café and high ropes course with zip wires.

Sympathetically renovated to retain its authentic charm, discover sumptuous textiles, exposed wooden beams, floorboards and stone walls, plus antique furniture alongside an array of modern comforts. Step into the tiled hallway and discard your outdoor clothes and boots. The kitchen has an electric oven and hob, fridge, freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washer/dryer. Cook a delicious meal and gather around the antique dining table in the dining room, catching up at the end of a busy day. As the evening draws in, retire to the large living room, where comfortable sofas and armchairs face the wood burner, perfect for cosy nights with a Smart TV as well. In warm weather, open the French doors to the patio and let the fresh air in as you read a good book on the sofa. Upstairs, the bedrooms retain the same character. The master twin bedroom has an en-suite shower room, while a further twin bedroom, a double bedroom and a single room have ample storage and fantastic views. The family bathroom has a marble floor and a shower over the bath.

Outside, find a pretty patio with garden furniture and a variety of shrubs and plants. The babbling brook, which can be fast flowing at times, runs at the rear of the house and provides a soothing ambience as you dine alfresco morning, noon and night. Although there is a wall between the patio and the stream, children will need to be supervised. There is parking for two cars under the archway by the house.

Beautiful large house in a very quiet location, with good links to local attractions. The online listings in holidaycottages and sallyscottages dont do it justice and the stream/river running behind the house and outside space are lovely. The houses furnishings are quite dated and not going to be to everyones taste and its as if they havent been upRead moredated for many years. Sofas and beds are old and very soft with little support but despite these issues we would definitely stay here again. Hide

A lovely cottage in a beautiful quiet setting, convenient for the Lakes. Good views of local wildlife from the cottage, the yellow wagtails with their chicks were delightful. Good village shop close by. Parking wasn't a problem, we parked one car under the archway and the other in the pull in area further up the lane.
