This remote property is perfectly positioned for enjoying the wild scenery of the Newlands Valley. Escape everyday life and embrace the landscape for a truly memorable Lakeland holiday.
This is wonderful place to stay, stuffed full of treasures, antiques and knick-knacks, standing proudly in the upper part of the Newlands Valley with beautiful, uninterrupted views of the Newlands valley and fells. The Newlands Valley is an excellent location for walkers. It offers some of the best ridge walks in the Lake District. Height is gained quickly and there are several outstanding horseshoe walks in the valley or nearby including the Dale Head and Coledale horseshoes. There is also gentle walking direct from the house around the valley, as well as access to beautiful lakeside walking in nearby Buttermere and Borrowdale. It is also a superb base for cyclists as the Newlands Pass offers several exciting hairpin bends and testing hills. It forms a circuit with the Whinlatter Pass or a longer circuit with Honister Pass providing thrilling road cycling and magnificent scenery. The nearby Whinlatter Forest Centre is a start point for mountain bike trails. There is one pub in the valley; a traditional pub serving good food and beverages. The outside bar allows you to admire the view whilst supping your drink. There are also pubs in the villages of Braithwaite (3.5 miles) and Buttermere (3 miles). Keswick is a short drive away (5 miles) boasting plenty of pubs, shops, cafés and restaurants. Keswick also has an art deco cinema and a theatre.
Life at this cottage centres around the main room on the ground floor. Here there is seating arranged around the main focal point, the large open fire. There are other quieter areas - a smaller seating area in the south-facing bay window which has fantastic, uninterrupted views over the surrounding fells. There is another small gathering place with seating in an alcove by the patio entrance door, again with beautiful views. Those with musical talent will be able to entertain themselves, and others, on the various keyboard instruments around the room including a piano, harpsichord and small church organ. Towards the end of the room is the dining table - a great place for doing a jigsaw or for family/group meals seating nine to ten people comfortably. Beyond the dining area is the kitchen which is equipped with electric oven and hob, dishwasher, large fridge/freezer and microwave. There is also a walk-in-larder. A separate toilet is beyond the kitchen.
The stairs from the main room lead to a corridor with four bedrooms. Three of these are doubles (one of which has a king-size bed on a raised platform. This might be unsuitable if you have difficulties with mobility). In this bedroom there is also a handbasin. There is another room with three single beds. All the bedrooms have amazing views. There is a family bathroom which has a bath with shower over and sink. There is a separate toilet. Finally, there is a shower room with an electric shower - although please note that this is very small.
Outside is a south-facing gravelled terrace - the perfect place for al fresco dining. There is half an acre of grounds to explore and then countless walks leading off in different directions. Parking by the house for up to five cars.
