A delightful cottage, with a pretty garden and views out towards the fells, perfect for a couple, and just under 1 mile from the centre of Keswick and 1.5 miles from Derwentwater.

Make a romantic retreat to this welcoming 19th-century, Lakeland cottage to the east of the lively market town of Keswick. Sleeping two guests in one bedroom, the unique abode is in a great location for exploring the town, 1 mile away, with its independent shops and boutiques, as well as its eateries, cinema, theatre and museums. Stroll down to Derwentwater, about 1.5 miles from the cottage, to follow footpaths or book a seat on a cruise out on the lake. Drive to the marina, 3.5 miles away, to try canoeing, kayaking or windsurfing. Visit the Castlerigg Stone Circle, less than 1 mile from the cottage; plan a day trip to Cockermouth, 15 miles away to see Wordsworth’s House and Garden.

Follow the steps up to the garden and open the door to find a reception hall, with storage for outerwear and access to the rest of the inviting accommodation. Wander on through into the lounge/kitchen/diner, with its wooden floor, vaulted ceiling and revealed woodwork. Choose a DVD from the selection then settle on the sofa to watch a film or switch on the satellite TV. Find a book to read or puzzle to complete or simply take in the fell views. Discover the kitchen area close by has an oven, induction hob, microwave, a fridge/freezer and dishwasher. Make yourself a cup of tea or pour yourself a glass of something from the welcome pack; then start thinking about dinner. Prepare a romantic meal to enjoy together at the table. Further on in the cottage is the bathroom, which has a shower, bath and WC, then the bedroom, with its king-size bed and distant mountain views.

Spend sunny days relaxing out in the private, leafy garden. Have a quiet drink out here or dinner in the evening. Find parking for one car at the cottage.

Lovely compact and cosy cottage with off road parking at the property. Very clean and comfortable, equipped with everything we needed. Lovely welcome pack and lots of helpful information from the owner. Ideally situated to walk into Keswick and it was a lovely walk along the old railway cycle path which was mostly flat and tarmacked.

the accommodation was excellent, lovely views, the host was most helpful and the 'get you in' pack waiting was totally unexpected and very much appreciated. the information packs were very welcome to work round the TV/DVD/Oven etc, other than the DVD had been replaced and didn't find the details, but was easy to figure out. the only small sticking Read morepoint was how close it was to the main road and the traffic noise. but this was only really noticeable in the day and i was normally out. We enjoyed our stay in The Shieling very much. It was quite convenient for the town, though we wished it had been a bit lower down the very long hill!

Absolutely the most perfect holiday cottage. It is beautiful. Ideally located. Approximately 5 mins walk to the nearest pub, Twy Dogs, and about 15 to 20 mins walk into town. Keswick is stunning but when you get a beautiful cottage booked aswell then that just makes it perfect. Thank you Pat...

Very well-provisioned accommodation, with great attention to detail and lovely new kitchen and bathroom. The road is a bit busy, so getting off the drive could be a bit tricky. Good location to walk into town along the lovely rail path. Very helpful owner with good recommendations. The welcome pack was a lovely touch.
