Property code: SZ554

Perfect for lovers of the great outdoors, this home from home is a great base from which to explore lakes and fells. Treat yourself to a bite to eat or two in the village cafe where you can enjoy a tipple and stroll home, or dine at the hotel just a few minutes' walk away.

With mountain views from every room, you're spoilt for choice for where your next walk will be! Maiden Moor overlooks the garden, and just a short walk away is Castle Crag, which makes up part of the Jaws of Borrowdale. If a flatter walk is more your thing, just 1 mile south of you is Bowder Stone, an incredible balanced stone which is a sight to behold, or over the duck boards from Manesty, along the lake edge. There are lots of lovely walks from the doorstep and the area is rich in birdlife. Buses run to a timetable to and from the bustling town of Keswick, and the launch runs on the lake throughout the day.

Just 300 yards from Westrigg is the Methodist Chapel by the bridges, which is home to The Borrowdale Story. Here you can find the history of the Borrowdale Valley and Riggside. The owners of Westrigg, along with other local villagers, have lovingly curated memorabilia and stories dating back to the 1500s. You can also purchase arts and crafts, made locally in the valley. A further 2.5 miles further down the valley in Stonethwaite, you'll find St Andrew's Church, which houses the second part of the Borrowdale Story: The History of Mining. Take some time to learn about the trade of the valley, and then why not carry on the theme, and book a tour at the Honister Slate mine!

The single-storey, ground-floor property is accessed via five steps, please be aware that there is an ascent to enter the property. Step inside and find yourself in the hallway which leads to all of the rooms. Start by relaxing in the lounge/diner where an open fire could keep you warm and provides a lovely welcome home after days outdoors. Take a seat on the sofa or a chair and switch on the TV/DVD to unwind. This room boasts far-reaching views which you can admire as you sit with a book. After cooking up a feast in the kitchen, plate up at the dining table and enjoy. With an electric cooker with oven, grill and hob, microwave and fridge/freezer, find all you need to whet your appetite from breakfast through to dinner. There is a small breakfast bar where you can enjoy a cup of tea and let the breeze in through the garden door. When it’s time to say good night, head to bed in one of two lovely rooms. There is a double with views of Grange Fell and plenty of storage, and a twin room with views of Maiden Moor. Rise and shine and freshen up in the family bathroom with shower over the three-quarter-length bath. A separate WC is next to the bathroom.

Spend time in the large, partially enclosed garden and marvel at the fantastic views and lovely planting. Steps lead to different areas of the garden and there is a slate table, with chairs for dining alfresco or sitting with a drink. There is off-road parking for two cars.
