Property code: SZ367

With walks and trails from the door straight to Aira Force, Gowbarrow, Dowthwaitehead and Helvellyn, this large, open property is the ideal place to find some peace after a day our exploring. Overlook the landscape above Ullswater from every window whilst you plan the day's adventure.

Enjoy your quiet spot in the village of Matterdale whilst being close to many bustling spots. Walk 1.5 miles to the beautiful Aira Force waterfall where you can walk up to Gowbarrow terrace for spectacular views of Ullswater. Make the 4.5-mile trip to Glenridding where you can board an Ullswater Steamer with dogs in tow and enjoy a cruise of the lake. Jump off at Howtown, Pooley Bridge and Aira Force to wander the surrounding villages and fells. Pooley Bridge (6.5 miles) is a great spot to enjoy a bite to eat. The local market town of Penrith has all you need to need throughout your stay to keep your cupboards stocked with goodies and is a lovely place to spend a morning wandering shops.

Step inside the porch where, in addition to the hallway, there is plenty of room to leave boots, leads and coats after adventures. A fantastic space in which to spend time together, the open-plan lounge/diner exudes charm and character. Perfectly arranged around the wood burner, which sits in the majestic fireplace, antique chairs offer you somewhere to relax in front of the TV or a DVD. Sharing its space with the dining table, there is plenty of room for all guests to sit and enjoy dinner together and the room is dotted with beautiful, carved, antique furniture. Up three steps is the kitchen with a Range-style oven with ceramic hob, a substantial fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave and all the crockery and cookware you will need for your stay. The ground floor bedroom with fell views has three steps up to access and has twin beds that can be made up as a super-king-size on request at the time of booking and has access to the shower room next to it. A utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer completes the ground floor. Upstairs, a mezzanine-style landing with sloping ceiling boasts fantastic views and somewhere to sit with a good book. The remaining bedrooms can be found up some further steps. Two of the bedrooms are configured with inner doors for privacy and outer sliding doors. The outer doors can make them into en-suites or keep the sliding doors open so that everyone has access to the bathrooms. The first double has a built-in wardrobe and en-suite shower room with WC between the inner door and sliding door. The next bedroom is a twin bedroom which is suited to both adults and children. The final bedroom is king-sized with plenty of space for clothes. Between a sliding door and the inner door is the bathroom, hence it can be used as an en-suite or family bathroom. The bathroom has a shower over the bath, WC and fellside views.

Over the lane, an enclosed garden has seating so you can take a drink outside and bask in the sun. Take care when crossing the lane, though there should not be much traffic. Giving you another spot to sit in is the rear, enclosed gravelled area with outside table and chairs, which captures the sun in the evening. There is parking to the side of the house for three to four cars and four wall-mounted bike racks at the back of the house. Please provide your own bike locks.

This home is bursting with character and history, mixed with modern tweaks here and there. It is set up perfectly for walking with both boots room and drying room being well heated. Superb property. Everything that you would need for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. A "Wow" from walking in the front door.
