Serious hill walkers and climbers in the party might like to attempt Scafell Pike, England’s highest peak, 5 miles away on foot or 12.5 miles by car then 0.5 miles on foot.
Make your way into the house via a rear porch, with useful utility room, providing room for taking off boots and shoes and towelling down damp dogs; find a freezer in here too. Take a few steps up into the generous kitchen/diner, which has an AGA but is also equipped with two sets of induction hobs, plus a fan oven/microwave combi and dishwasher. Discover this room leads into a useful pantry. Prepare hearty feasts in the kitchen then settle on the sofa in here to watch TV while your dishes are roasting. Find a second utility area, plus a drying room, close by, with a washing machine, tumble dryer, WC and handbasin. Serve dinner in the impressive dining room before heading up a few more steps into the welcoming lounge, with its exposed stone walls and old oak beams. Light the wood burner in here and watch TV or a DVD. Musicians can enjoy the grand piano. A separate study makes a great quiet space or somewhere to play board games and there is also a storeroom on the ground floor, where you can keep bicycles and outdoor equipment, and which has handy external access, plus stairs up to a first-floor bunk room. From the main hall venture up the stairs to a landing with an upper lounge, capturing views over the trees and fells, and the family bathroom, with shower over bath, WC and handbasin. Climb four more stairs into the sumptuous master bedroom, with its 300-year-old, king-size, four-poster bed and a window seat. Follow the corridor and take two steps down into a twin room with scenic views. Find the family suite next door: this includes a double bedroom and door leading to the bunk room for two. All these rooms are served by an additional shower room, with handbasin.
