A picture-perfect, stone country hall, dating back to the 11th century, with an abundance of original features, set within exquisite gardens and perfect for hill walks and cycle rides.

Immerse yourselves in the history of this magnificent, four-bedroom country house, where up to eight guests and three delighted dogs can make themselves at home. Stroll less than 1 mile to Boot to take a ride on the famous Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway, through stunning Lake District scenery. Stop in Ravenglass, 8 miles away, to walk on the beach, see the ruins of an old Roman bathhouse or pick up a section of the Cumbria Coastal Way. Visit Muncaster Castle and Gardens while you are in Ravenglass. For gentle walks from home, stroll beside the River Esk. Serious hill walkers and climbers in the party might like to attempt Scafell Pike, England’s highest peak, 5 miles away on foot or 12.5 miles by car then 0.5 miles on foot.

Make your way into the house via a rear porch, with useful utility room, providing room for taking off boots and shoes and towelling down damp dogs; find a freezer in here too. Take a few steps up into the generous kitchen/diner, which has an AGA but is also equipped with two sets of induction hobs, plus a fan oven/microwave combi and dishwasher. Discover this room leads into a useful pantry. Prepare hearty feasts in the kitchen then settle on the sofa in here to watch TV while your dishes are roasting. Find a second utility area, plus a drying room, close by, with a washing machine, tumble dryer, WC and handbasin. Serve dinner in the impressive dining room before heading up a few more steps into the welcoming lounge, with its exposed stone walls and old oak beams. Light the wood burner in here and watch TV or a DVD. Musicians can enjoy the grand piano. A separate study makes a great quiet space or somewhere to play board games and there is also a storeroom on the ground floor, where you can keep bicycles and outdoor equipment, and which has handy external access, plus stairs up to a first-floor bunk room. From the main hall venture up the stairs to a landing with an upper lounge, capturing views over the trees and fells, and the family bathroom, with shower over bath, WC and handbasin. Climb four more stairs into the sumptuous master bedroom, with its 300-year-old, king-size, four-poster bed and a window seat. Follow the corridor and take two steps down into a twin room with scenic views. Find the family suite next door: this includes a double bedroom and door leading to the bunk room for two. All these rooms are served by an additional shower room, with handbasin.

Soak up the sunshine and fresh country air out in the leafy gardens. Explore the area to find different places to relax or watch the children playing. Please ensure children are supervised near the pond area. Light the BBQ on balmy evenings. The forecourt is shared by a neighbouring working farm and access is to the property is via an uneven farm track.

This is a wonderful traditional cottage with warm hearted, generous, and thoughtful hosts who provided an excellent house book covering everything we needed throughout our stay at Christmas. This would be a lovely cottage and location in summer months.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Dalegarth Hall. It is a truly unique experience and I would not hesitate to recommend to all, young and old. The hall is located in a secluded spot surrounded on all sides by amazing scenery & easily accessible walks. Tea, milk, coffee & biscuits on arrival is a nice touch, thank you.

This is a fantastic place to stay, set in the most beautiful location in Lakeland's best valley.
