Walk, dine and stock up on ingredients from your door so you can leave the car behind. The peaceful village of Ennerdale is a great base, and the warming wood burner welcomes you back home after exploring.
Wander 2 miles down the shore of Ennerdale Water. This lake boasts a fantastic array of rare wildlife including red squirrels and is a wonderful place, close to home, where you can enjoy a waterside walk. Adventure your way around the Ennerdale Valley and climb Pillar (9 miles), Steeple (9.5 miles), High Stile (8 miles), Great Borne (4 miles) or Red Pike (7.5 miles). Reward your climb with a summit-top picnic and panoramic views before descending and visiting your local pubs for a delicious meal and a glass of something cold. The local community shop and cafe is a top place to pick up goodies and to stock your cupboards with fresh, local produce.
Arrive at this welcoming cottage and head inside to find the kitchen. With underfloor heating, this space is well-equipped and warm to make your trip as easy as possible. A large electric oven, seven-ring gas hob, microwave oven, free-standing fridge/freezer, additional under-counter fridge, dishwasher, Nespresso coffee machine and hot water urn for quick cups of tea, provide all you need to rustle up meals. Spend time sitting at the breakfast table and admire the exposed beams and brickwork. Great for cleaning up post-adventure, the neighbouring boot room is equipped with a washing machine and tumble dryer. Plate up at the dining table in the lounge/diner for communal meals in front of the window with verdant views. After dinner, settle down on one of the sofas and put your feet up in front of the wood burner and the Smart TV. For some peace and quiet, delve into one of the books which fills the bookcase. After long days, make your way into one of five bedrooms to rest your head. Find the first bedroom (Dent), on the ground floor. This double room has an ornamental fireplace and a small en-suite shower room with WC, it is suited to guests with limited mobility due to its ground-floor position. Climb stairs to the first floor to reach the remaining bedrooms. Off the landing, find two double bedrooms (Crag and Pillar), with small en-suite shower rooms with WC. Crag has a TV for lazy mornings, and both boast lovely views. The final two bedrooms (Herdus and Grike) can be made up as super-king-size beds or twin beds, please request your preferred arrangement at time of booking. Herdus has a small en-suite shower room with WC, whilst Grike can use the family bathroom with bath, shower and WC. Take care of the sloping ceilings in the first-floor rooms.
Spend time in the great outdoors and enjoy having access to the acre of field behind the cottage, great for dogs and little ones. The landscaped garden area is unenclosed so keep an eye on canines and children whilst you sit on the patio with a drink in hand. If you bring your bikes on holiday, secure bike storage can be arranged with the owners who live in a separate property on-site. There is off-road parking for six cars on the gravel driveway.
