Ennerdale Valley is a magnificent, remote and quiet valley in the Lake District. Walk to Ennerdale Water (1.5 miles), a pretty lake sitting below mountains and home to several rare animals such as the red squirrel. You can also take your pick of fells and peaks to walk on including Great Borne (3 miles) Pillar and Steeple (8 miles) or High Stile (7 miles). The Georgian town of Cockermouth is 10.5 miles away and has a great range of independent shops, cafes and restaurants. It’s also known as the birthplace of William Wordsworth. Explore the coast at Whitehaven (8 miles) with its colourful harbour and a great place to uncover stories of mining, rum and piracy.
Traditional features such as Victorian patterned glass panes, flagstone flooring and pine doors bring this cottage’s character to the forefront, while still making it a practical place to stay with your family. From the hallway, you will find the country-style kitchen. This is well equipped for your stay with a fridge, freezer, electric oven, hob, microwave, coffee pod machine and dishwasher. Great for making homecooked meals to enjoy together in the dining room with a table seating all six guests. A door under the staircase in the hallway hides a utility area that contains a washing machine and tumble dryer. The large living room has a warming wood burner, comfortable sofas and a Smart TV with DVD. There are also DVDs and board games provided for your use. Upstairs on the first floor are the three bedrooms and the family bathroom. The master bedroom has a king-size bed and lovely views from the window. A second room contains bunk beds, perfect for children. The third has twin beds with access via steep cottage-style stairs to a games room with table football and TV to plug in games consoles. This room has Velux windows and low ceilings with limited head height – this makes a great secret room for older kids, although we recommend them being supervised due to the low beams, Velux windows and steep stairs. The family bathroom has a roll-top bath, separate walk-in shower and WC.
Outside, you’ll find a pretty front garden with lawn space and to the rear a bricked courtyard. A table and chairs are situated in the courtyard, ideal for enjoying an evening glass of wine. Beyond this courtyard is a further garden and lawn space, located next to the River Ehen (children must be supervised). Parking is available outside the property, on a quiet residential road and electric vehicle charging is available on site at owners domestic rate. You’ll also be just 100 metres from the pubs and cafes of Ennerdale Bridge.
