The elegant apartment sleeps four guests and benefits from spectacular views out over Windermere. The property is surrounded by extensive shared grounds, with a track leading down to the water’s edge. From Lakeside, 1 mile away, you can board one of the iconic steamers to get out on the water and get a whole new perspective of the lake and the dramatic landscape. Hop on and off to visit the aquarium, board the steam train or enjoy a relaxing waterside stroll. The bustling village of Bowness-on-Windermere is just 10 miles away, where you’ll find a great selection of independent shops and restaurants. From here you can also climb Brant Fell, for panoramic views over the lake.

The apartment is situated in a grand, 19th-century mansion and retains many of its original features, such as wood panelling, parquet floors and impressive high ceilings. Enter via the back door of the apartment and into a spacious hallway, where you can store your coats and boots. From the hallway, bear left into the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. This spectacular space is light and airy, thanks to large windows framing beautiful views out over Windermere; relax in one of the seats by the window with a morning coffee, watching the deer in the meadow and boats bobbing on the water. Alternatively, relax on one of the comfy sofas in front of the roaring wood burner to watch a film on the Smart TV or read a book from the bookshelf. There’s also a box of toys and books for the little ones. The sleek kitchen features everything a budding chef could desire, including an electric hob, raised oven and grill, microwave and dishwasher. You’ll also find a built-in washing machine/dryer and a large fridge/freezer. In the evenings, congregate around the dining table for a night of great food and chat. There are two elegant bedrooms, both decorated in calming tones and boasting gorgeous views. The first is a king-size and the second is a twin, which can be made up into a super-king-size on request. Finally, there’s a modern family bathroom with a bath, shower and WC, as well as the added treat of underfloor heating.

Head out through the shared lobby and into the garden. The grounds are shared, but there is ample space to find your own little spot to soak up some rays or sip on a glass of wine. The large lawns are interspersed with mature trees, creating a grand setting against the backdrop of the mansion. Sit on the bench on the terrace to admire the views of the lake or take the short stroll down to the water’s edge to explore the shingle beach and paddle in the water. Should you wish to bring your own boat, you’ll have a designated parking space, and you can launch from the beach or the jetty. There are also benches on the grassed area to enjoy picnics and BBQs. There is off-road parking available on the estate for two cars and you are welcome to drive to the rear of the property to unload your luggage.

  • Part of the nearby woodland was severely hit by storms in late 2021, causing fallen trees and damaged pathways which will take a while to repair.  Guests are still able to access the woodland, but care must be taken.

Well equipped and well furnished, amazing location, quiet and peaceful. Shared spaces were not an issue, comfortable beds, slept very well. Great stay. Enjoyed the grandeur of the house and setting.

The location of the property is fantastic. I cannot fault the private jetty area available to guests by the Lake. We used this area so much for relaxing around the Lake and kayaking. So peaceful and private. The apartment is well equipped and generally quite modern but could be better with some finishing touches such as nicer looking internal doorsRead more, more storage solutions in the master bedroom and a larger TV in the lounge. We had a fabulous week in the apartment. Nicely furnished and well equipped. It is in a peaceful location and the scenery is fabulous. We spent a week paddle boarding, cycling and walking and would certainly recommend.

What a beautiful location great holiday home with all the equipment you would need -home from home and not far from all the great walks and we would definitely recommend this home for a great holiday

Great base for some god walks around the Lakes, very dog friendly everywhere. Cottage itself is on some lovely grounds, access to the lakeside boathouse + Lakeside village has some good amenities with a pub in the hotel.

Location and the property when inside are lovely. Although, the website pictures definitely up sell it somewhat. It feels at times that it lacks in finishing touches, the old brown doors, handles and IKEA furniture are a little out of keeping. Lovely apartment and we had a great week there. The location is gorgeous and with the heatwave week we had couldnt ask for anything better. Ideal location for swimming and paddle boarding.

This is a lovely cottage/apartment set in the grounds of an estate. It is very quiet with direct access to the lake down the path. The accommodation is comfortable and well-maintained and is located in a convenient location for the South Lakes.

Everything was just perfect starting from location and including beds comfort and the kitchen equipment. We were a little bit cautious if the water heater would be enough for four adults and a baby, but it covered all our needs easily. The apartment itself exceeded our expectations for an appropriate price.
