Part of a complex of properties near Nether Wasdale (1.5 miles), this property offers country walks right from the doorstep. Ascend England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike (5 miles), or its neighbouring peaks Green Gable and Pillar. Fish in England’s deepest lake, Wast Water (2.5 miles), mountain bike over lofty fells and sweeping valleys, and refresh in the nearby inn (4 miles) – home to The World’s Biggest Liar competition. Take a house tour or meet birds of prey at Muncaster Castle and Gardens (10 miles), or board a heritage train on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway (10 miles) – La’al Ratty in Old Cumbrian – which runs between Ravenglass and Dalgarth, where you’ll find Eskdale Mill and the quaint village of Boot.

Head up the garden path and step inside this welcoming country-style cottage where you can hang coats and store boots in the hallway porch. Walk through to the bright and spacious open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area. Sink into cosy seating and unwind after a busy day of adventures with TV, a favourite book, or simply relax and gaze out at the views of the Wasdale Screes. Mealtimes are easy with the well-equipped kitchen featuring an electric oven and hob, fridge, freezer, microwave, and toaster; plus a washer/dryer. When night falls, amble upstairs towards the two cosy bedrooms: a double bedroom with fell views, and a cosy twin bedroom – both rooms have ample storage space for luggage. There’s also a family bathroom with a shower over the bath and WC.

Outside, you’ll find a shared area to the front of the cottage (shared with neighbouring cottages), and parking is available for two cars opposite the cottage. There’s a wonderful pub with food (2 miles), and a shop (4.5 miles) within reach.

The location of this property is fantastic. Short walk down to Wastwater and lots of great walks in the hills & mountains. Highly recommend Sawmill cafe at Nether Wasdale. And excellent shop and post office in Eskdale Green.

Perfectly located at Greendale Bridge with views of Whin Rigg from the front room, this cottage is ideal for an escape to the fells. However, the remote location might make it harder for those who require amenities within a short walk but we found that a short drive to Gosforth gave us everything we needed. Otherwise there are plenty of pubs in theRead more valley to choose from. Hide

What a beautiful cottage. An excellent base to explore, so peaceful and quiet. Stunning views from the cottage and some great walks right on the doorstep. The cottage was clean, comfortable and well equipped. We will definitely return!

Nice cottage, clean and well appointed. View is OK across to Wastwater screes, but you can't see Wastwater lake itself, or the dramatic views at the head of the valley directly from the cottage. Outside space at the cottage is limited and shady, so not much option for a sunny beer after a long walk, unless you sit in the car park which is very sunnRead morey! Hide

Fantastic cottage in a stunning location. The cottage has everything one needs and a lot of thought has clearly gone into what is provided for the guests. Comfortable and inviting, we enjoyed our three days here.

Roan Wood Cottage in Wasdale is a lovely base for walking around Wast Water. The cottage is beautifully decorated and well equipped. It looks out onto the Screes and you can sit in the lounge on the comfy sofas watching the weather and light change by the second. Well worth a visit.

Lovely cottage, extraordinary location near a stunning lake. Not quite as private as the pictures suggest, but the situation could not be better. We would definitely go back.

Lovely place and location. We also loved the excellent selection of mid-00s DVDs. A very nostalgic and nice way to end the day after a long hike, haha.

Great location. Busy road outside of the cottage, so no as peaceful as I would have liked. Beds not as comfy as elsewhere we have stayed. I would say the place could be a little tired & not worth the money we spent. Disappointed with a cottage from Sallys
