Set in West Cumbria, within the Lake District National Park, this welcoming cottage comfortably sleeps four. It’s perfectly placed for sporty guests that love outdoor pursuits.

Part of a complex of properties near Nether Wasdale (1.5 miles), this property offers country walks right from the doorstep. Ascend England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike (5 miles), or its neighbouring peaks Green Gable and Pillar. Fish in England’s deepest lake, Wast Water (2.5 miles), mountain bike over lofty fells and sweeping valleys, and refresh in the nearby inn (4 miles) – home to The World’s Biggest Liar competition. Take a house tour or meet birds of prey at Muncaster Castle and Gardens (10 miles), or board a heritage train on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway (10 miles) – La’al Ratty in Old Cumbrian – which runs between Ravenglass and Dalgarth, where you’ll find Eskdale Mill and the quaint village of Boot.

Head up the garden path and step inside this welcoming country-style cottage where you can hang coats and store boots in the hallway porch. Walk through to the bright and spacious open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area. Sink into cosy seating and unwind after a busy day of adventures with TV, a favourite book, or simply relax and gaze out at the views of the Wasdale Screes. Mealtimes are easy with the well-equipped kitchen featuring an electric oven and hob, fridge, freezer, microwave, and toaster; plus a washer/dryer. When night falls, amble upstairs towards the two cosy bedrooms: a double bedroom with fell views, and a cosy twin bedroom – both rooms have ample storage space for luggage. There’s also a family bathroom with a shower over the bath and WC.

Outside, you’ll find a shared area to the front of the cottage (shared with neighbouring cottages), and parking is available for two cars opposite the cottage. There’s a wonderful pub with food (2 miles), and a shop (4.5 miles) within reach.

Roan Wood Cottage in Wasdale is a lovely base for walking around Wast Water. The cottage is beautifully decorated and well equipped. It looks out onto the Screes and you can sit in the lounge on the comfy sofas watching the weather and light change by the second. Well worth a visit.

Lovely cottage, extraordinary location near a stunning lake. Not quite as private as the pictures suggest, but the situation could not be better. We would definitely go back.

Lovely place and location. We also loved the excellent selection of mid-00s DVDs. A very nostalgic and nice way to end the day after a long hike, haha.

Great location. Busy road outside of the cottage, so no as peaceful as I would have liked. Beds not as comfy as elsewhere we have stayed. I would say the place could be a little tired & not worth the money we spent. Disappointed with a cottage from Sallys

The cottage is well equipped, maintained and prepared, giving a very comfortable feel on arrival. Various options for walks from the door with many others within short driving distances. The location is excellent for exploring further afield in the Western Lakes and coast.

A cosy well equipped cottage in a remote, quiet location. Short walk to Wast Water. Perfect for exploring the Western lakes, seaside and getting to Scarfell. We enjoyed our week there.

As a first time guest to Wasdale we were in an idylic peaceful cottage, with amazing views, plently of walking, (including Scafell pike) and Wastewater was great for swimming and small boats. However don't expect much else ! The property is very remote, and a weeks stay was too long for us. Muncaster castle is well worth a visit, and we enjoyed fooRead mored at 'The Sawmill' which seemed to be the only modern establishment around. We believe this property was ok for our family, but better for older folk. Hide
