A mile from the edge of Bassenthwaite lake, spend days in the great outdoors before returning to cosy up at home.

A lovely home from which to explore, whether you prefer a hike or a cycle, there is something for everyone. Approach Skiddaw (6 miles) from the north, a quieter route than the busier southern track, and summit England’s fourth highest mountain for panoramic views. Treat your climb with a meal in the local pub which lies a mile from your door and is a great place to enjoy a night off from the kitchen, or travel 7 miles to the vibrant market town of Keswick where plenty of eateries and rainy day activities await. Hop on your bike and cycle 8.5 miles to Whinlatter Forest where you can ride along a host of tracks and trails or entertain little ones at the Lake District Wildlife Park (1 mile).

Step inside this charming 18th-century cottage and make yourselves right at home. Head into the spacious kitchen/diner where you can sit at the table with a cup of tea and find all you need to rustle up well-deserved feasts after adventurous days. The kitchen includes an electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer and microwave - there is also a washing machine. After dining at the table, climb stairs to the first floor where the inviting lounge and its stunning views welcome you to melt into one of the sofas and relax in front of the TV. Great for family film nights, switch on the TV/DVD and stack the coffee table high with treats. When it’s time to rest weary heads, make your way back downstairs where the pair of bedrooms are found. The double bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with WC and shower over the bath. Decorated in calming tones, the twin is also a lovely place to switch off for the night and the family shower room with WC and double shower cubicle offers somewhere to enjoy a refreshing rinse.

Take your morning tea or coffee outside into the garden. This enclosed, lawned space is great for children to play and the outdoor furniture makes it a comfortable place to bask in the sun and sip a tipple of an evening. If you need somewhere to store bikes, the owner can make some space available in their lockable garage. There is off-road parking.

We had a lovely few days. The cottage had everything we needed. It was warm and cosy even though the weather outside was cold and snowy. The view from the cottage was fantastic especially with the snow. It would be lovely to return in the summer and make the most of the garden. It was a great spot to explore - lots of walks close by. The cottage is lovely and really well equipped so you can cook if you want. There was a great selection of games in the lounge to play on an evening or wet afternoon. The showers were great too with plenty of hot water.

We found the cottage comfortable and well equipped. The efficient heating system was much appreciated as our stay encompassed a couple of the coldest nights of the year so far. There is a dedicated parking space included with the let which is easily accessible. Bedrooms are comfortable 1 with en-suite bathroom and 1 with adjacent shower room. ThereRead mores a cosy lounge which is situated upstairs and has a view out in the direction of Skiddaw. All in all a comfortable and relaxing place to stay. Hide

A clean, warm and comfortable farm house style room are amazing. We've had a fabulous holiday and would recommend the cottage as a perfect base to tour the Northern Lakes. The owners were very friendly and knowledgeable about the surrounding fells. We enjoyed it so much we've booked again .

A lovely comfortable cottage with plenty of space. The kitchen was especially cosy - good to come back to after a day outdoors (we were there in November). It's a good base for going fell walking and an easy distance (by car) to Keswick.
