  • Ideal for Families
Property code: SZ438

A gorgeous barn conversion for eight, set in the southern Lakes, with spectacular upstairs living to capture the views, and splendid gardens from which to soak up the scenery.

Head to this truly unique holiday home in the south of the Lake District. Up to eight guests and two dogs are welcome to stay at the impressive four-bedroom property in Finsthwaite, 10 miles from the market town of Ulverston and seaside resort of Grange over Sands. Venture directly from the door to join the scenic West Windermere Way, one of the longest routes of miles without stiles. As you walk past the church and village hall, you are instantly on the 0.5-mile path to Lakeside via Great Knott Wood. From Lakeside, you can take a scenic cruise on Lake Windermere to sail to Ambleside and Bowness. The Aquarium of the Lakes is also located here, or you can board The Lakeside & Haverthwaite Steam Railway. Alternatively continue along the West Windermere Way on foot or by bike, following the steam railway to watch from above as the trains pass under the bridge down to Newby Bridge. On sunny days you can sit by the River Leven to enjoy a drink or spot of lunch.

Leaving the property through the quaint village, continue along the West Windermere route to the picturesque tarn of High Dam and nearby Stott Park Bobbin Mill, the only working bobbin mill left in the Lake District. If you’re already thinking you will need to stay longer, Fell Foot National Trust is 3 miles away, Lakeland Motor Museum is 3.5 miles, or head north to Hawkshead and Sawrey to visit William Wordsworth's grammar school, the home of Beatrix Potter at Hill Top, or Claife Viewing Station. If you still want more to explore, climb Gummer’s Howe for a panoramic view of the lake and mountains, Wray Castle is only 10 miles away, or you can relax with a spot of fishing at Esthwaite Water Trout Fishery.

Step into this bright, three-storey barn and find yourselves in a broad reception hall, where you can leave your boots and jackets in a cloakroom and find a separate WC. Wander on to discover the airy kitchen/diner, with its AEG double electric oven and separate electric hob, microwave, fridge, washing machine, and dishwasher. Prepare hearty meals then gather around the table to enjoy them together. Find an extra TV in here too. Make your way up to the first floor to relax in the lounge and bask in front of the open fire. Settle down together to watch the large TV, with Freesat, or a film on the DVD player. Perhaps listen to your favourite tunes via the Bluetooth Bose speaker after dinner. Members of your family might also like to spill into the sun-filled conservatory to take in the sweeping vistas or challenge each other to a board game. Find one of your bedrooms, which has a king-size bed and en-suite shower room with WC, is also at this level. Climb the stairs to the top floor to discover another king-size room, plus two twins with hand basins, all with low sloping ceilings. The family bathroom, with bath, shower and a separate WC, is also up here.

Enjoy the many levels and different outside spaces within the gorgeous grounds. Dine on either of the patios, light the BBQ and find the delightful secret garden. The attached garage is arranged as a games room, with table tennis and a dart board, and also has space for bicycles. A handy tumble dryer is also kept in here. The barn comes with parking for two cars.

An amazing property with excellent views and amazing walks on your doorstep. We wanted to explore the wider area but found if you wanted to stay local without a car there was ample to do minutes from your front door either walking or on bikes.

Loved cottage, warm, cosy and everything you would need for a family/group holiday. Garden great, lots of different sections. We kept our bigger dog on a lead as he likes the sheep that can be seen. Cottage on 3 levels with some stairs, may be an issue for those with mobility concerns, as kitchen is on ground floor and living area 1stfloor. Views aRead morere spectacular from conservatory. Walks from the cottage are fantastic!Cottage is attached to neighbours, but no issues there. Excellent place to stay Hide

A lovely, comfortable house in a beautiful area - easy access to the Lakes without the bustle of the honeypot centres like Windermere. Great walks and swims close by at High Tarn and Lakeside. Thoroughly recommended.
