Benefitting from an idyllic setting in a sleepy Lakeland hamlet, this cosy cottage allows small families and couples to fully switch off and yet still be within easy reach of Lake District highlights such as Keswick and Ullswater.

Soak up the breathtaking scenery from this secluded cottage on the northern edge of the Lake District National Park. The cottage has a beautiful shared garden, with picnic benches and ample room for children to play, and is perfectly placed for climbing the popular fells of Blencathra (4 miles) or Carrock Fell (1 mile). As well as a plethora of walks from the property, it’s also easy to hop in the car and journey to the pretty town of Keswick (11 miles), with its independent shops and eateries, or head to the ever-spectacular Ullswater (12 miles). Here, you can board one of the iconic steamers, or enjoy peaceful waterside walks along the Ullswater Way or high into the surrounding fells.

The characterful barn conversion is warm and welcoming, with beautiful original features including exposed stonework and beams. The inviting lounge is a lovely, relaxing spot to curl up after a long day of sightseeing. Sink into the plump sofa or armchairs around the electric fire, which is set in a fabulous ornamental fireplace, to read a book or watch the SkyTV/DVD. The kitchen has everything you need to cater for the group, such as an electric oven and hob, fridge, freezer, and microwave. There’s also a handy dishwasher. The fold-out table is great for grabbing a quick bite to eat before heading out for the day or spreading out your guidebooks to plan your next adventure. Heading upstairs, you’ll find the two charming bedrooms, both of which feature fabulous exposed beams and are decorated in calming tones for a good night’s rest. There’s a double bedroom which has a shower cubicle and wash basin, which is brilliant for speeding up the morning routine and getting everyone out and about nice and early. The second bedroom is a twin with bunk beds. The family bathroom is also located on this floor and has a bath – great for soaking aching limbs after a walk – and a WC.

The shared outside area is quite magical, with gorgeous shady areas under the trees for picnics, as well as benches and picnic tables. Much of the garden is laid to lawn, providing ample space for children and your four-legged friend to play (be mindful of unfenced ponds). There is a large off-road parking area and you’ll also have access to shared laundry facilities, with a washing machine, tumble dryer and iron.

We had a lovely time here. The cottage is lovely, warm and cosy. The location is fantastically remote but still only 20 minutes from Keswick and Patterdale. It was lovely to see a woodpecker, red squirrel and rabbits in the back garden. The owner is really friendly and very helpful.

Great little cottage in a tiny hamlet about 8 mins drive off the A66. Very peaceful area, surrounded by hills and fields. There are 3 cottages in a converted barn next to the owners house. The kitchen has everything you need for cooking and easily sits four at the table. The living room is a relaxing space with comfortable sofa and armchairs. The mRead moreain double bedroom is very spacious and has a shower in it. The bedroom with bunk beds is small but has lots of storage space. We would go again! Hide

The cottage was in a beautiful courtyard setting in Mosedale, right at the bottom of Blencathra. It is very peaceful and has a lovely wooded garden. We met the friendly owner who answered our questions and offered local advice. The cottage was clean, fairly modern, well equipped and the beds big and comfortable. I will definitely return.

Lovely cosy cottage in beautiful surroundings. Perfect quiet peaceful retreat with lots of amazing walks on the doorstep. Close enough for short drive to nearby keswick and penrith. The lovely gardens of the cottage were perfect for our 5 year old son to play in and explore. Saw some lovely red squirrels while we were there!

Beautiful cottage in an ideal location! Very peaceful , with the lovely owner on site if needed. He has a well tended wildlife garden, a bird watchers paradise, with frequent visits from red squirrels in the morning.

The cottage is in a wonderfully pretty part of the NE lakes, nestling under Bowscale Fell. Internally it is well laid out, with a very cosy lounge, an expansive master bedroom upstairs, and a second bedroom with bunk beds. The house is electrically heated - but the heaters are fast-acting so we didn't have any issues when the weather was not so warRead morem. In terms of location - there are good deal of circular walks that can be done right from the cottage, and Skiddaw Forest is also well within reach Hide

We had a lovely stay at the cottage at the beginning of April 23. The cottage was a perfect size for the 3 of us us and a dog. It is set in the most idyllic surroundings and the perfect location for walks. Granary cottage included towels and WiFi, the gardens were beautiful.

I stayed here with my husband for a blissful, peaceful week of sleep, walks and reading. The cottage is ideally located if you want to get away from the bustle of a town and walk the nearby fells from your door. It had everything we needed and we very much enjoyed our stay.
