  • A beautiful 17th-century property set on the shores of Derwentwater
  • This cosy and inviting property enjoys stunning views of the Lake District
  • The cottage is a wonderful base for keen walkers discovering the Borrowdale Valley
Property code: SZ061

Sitting just a few steps away from the banks of a magnificent lake, this fantastic single-level cottage is perfect for a family or friends seeking an idyllic holiday retreat with spellbinding views.

With Derwentwater across the road, this is a fantastic base for exploring this beautiful lake and its magical surrounding countryside. The scenic 10-mile walk around the lake provides many memorable highlights, with Surprise View and Lodore Falls just a mile to the south, and the thriving town of Keswick to the north (2.5 miles). Keswick is home to a range of great places to eat and drink, as well as popular attractions including the Derwent Pencil Museum, the Puzzling Place and Castlerigg Stone Circle. Climbers can head to local peaks including Dale Head (6 miles) and Grisedale Pike (7 miles). Several other lakes are within easy reach including Bassenthwaite Lake (6.5 miles), Buttermere (9.5 miles) and Crummock Water (11.5 miles).

Three gentle steps lead up from the road and onto the path leading to the cottage. Entering the property, the airy and relaxing lounge is a perfect space to unwind in, featuring a lovely open fire and arched windows with extensive views over the surrounding fells and the lake. TV reception is limited, so the room is ideal for cuddling up, chatting into the night or catching up with a good book. The light and stylish kitchen has a wide range of equipment including an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and washing machine. There’s also a handy store room which contains a Swedish drying cabinet perfect for laundry or wet coats and boots. In the spacious separate dining room you can gather to plan your day or share your favourite meals. Exploring further, there are three delightful bedrooms, decorated in delicate light tones and with plenty of storage space: there’s a bright double room with dual aspect windows, a pretty twin room overlooking the lake and a cosy single room, also with lake views. The property features a family bathroom complete with a shower and a WC.

Stepping outside, the veranda looks out across the garden and features outdoor furniture perfect for a picnic or a morning coffee as you take in the fantastic scenery. There is ample parking available for two cars.

Its a wonderful location and the cottage itself was comfy and warm with great WiFi. However there were a few issues that I wanted to raise and the biggest issue was getting hold of anyone from local management. As others have said the cottage is on the lakeside across a small road. In weekends the road can get busy but not bad at all during the week. We loved the cottage but a few things are needing attention. The settees need the upholstery cleaning, one small rooms radiator (we werent using) wasnt working. The peaceful evenings are wonderful just be awaRead morere that the bus stop is right outside the property so you can be on view in the living area. All that said, we would return. Hide

This was our 4th stay here in as many years, we love the cottage and location. Its on a road that can get busy at times but this doesnt bother us at all. Great for walks and Keswick town is only a hours walk away. The bus also stops right outside of here which is handy for those who dont drive or like us it doesnt move once we get here

The cottage is amazing, we swam everyday in the lake. Just crossing the road ready to swim is amazing. The road is busy at times but we didnt notice when in the house. Walks from the door are wonderful and Dawn and her coffee cart and cakes is really one of the nicest people in the lakes.

Great location - although busy with the road, boat launch, youth hostel, pop up cafe and bus stop. The property was comfortable but needing some work e.g light fitting broken on one room. I think it was overpriced for the facilities available.

The cottage itself was spotlessly clean with everything you could need. All furnishings and beds are of very good quality. Only negative was the shower was Luke warm.
