Part of a fantastic development in the friendly village of Backbarrow, this light and spacious apartment is a wonderful base for families and friends exploring the southern part of the Lake District.

The development is built on the site of a former ironworks and is ideally situated in the outskirts of Backbarrow on the banks of the River Leven. There are miles of local walks with breathtaking countryside views and fascinating glimpses of the local industrial heritage. Backbarrow is also home to the Lakeland Motor Museum, Cliffhanger Rooms and Bigland Barrow. The nearby village of Haverthwaite (1.5 miles) marks the start of the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway. Windermere is within easy reach (2.5 miles), with Fell Foot Park, the Lakes Aquarium, Stott Park Bobbin Mill and Gummer’s How within 4 miles. The market town of Ulverston is the birthplace of Stan Laurel and home to the Laurel and Hardy Museum (7 miles).

A shared entrance leads you up the internal stairs to this attractive duplex apartment which is laid out on the first and second floors of the property. On entering the apartment, the spacious, bright and airy open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner provides a fresh and relaxing living area. The refreshing and lightly furnished lounge is a fabulous space to unwind in, with a Smart TV, comfortable seating and patio doors allowing the light to flood in. The patio doors lead out onto a pretty balcony which makes a great spot for a morning coffee and for gazing out over the River Leven. Back inside, the stylishly designed kitchen is fully equipped with an electric oven and ceramic hob, fridge, freezer, microwave, coffee maker, dishwasher and washer/dryer. Next to the kitchen, the dining area is perfect for enjoying a family meal together. This floor also features the first of the bedrooms: a spacious double room with a Smart TV. There’s also a bathroom on this floor complete with a shower over the bath and a WC. Heading upstairs, you will find two further bedrooms: a twin room, and a super-king-size room which can be made up as a twin room on prior request with a TV. These rooms have access to a shower room complete with shower and WC.

The apartment complex is set in private landscaped grounds which you are welcome to explore. Allocated parking is available for two cars in the car park. There’s access to a shared lockup for storing bikes, where you’ll also find a hose for cleaning muddy bikes.

A very relaxing week in this lovely apartment. We are familiar with the area and it is a great location. Visited Ambleside, Bowness, Windermere and Ulverston. Coffee good at Cafe Ambio next to the museum and nice little bakery in Bouth. Buddhist temple in Ulverston worth a visit for a meditation session, Hoult spa at the Swan Hotel in Newby Bridge Read moreworth a visit. Apartment so nice to relax in, balcony lovely, beautifully decorated and beds very comfortable. Highly recommend! Hide

This was a wonderful place to stay. It has everything that you need and was extremely clean and comfortable. Was a great location for exploring the lakes and would highly recommend.

We had a problem with the door lock of the apartment, but after contacting the owner it was sorted by the owner the same day. The location and access to the lower lake area is good. A nice clean property.

Absolutely loved our stay here for a week. The balcony was perfect for the warm evenings. Apartment came fully equipped with everything you could possibly want and it was immaculately clean. Would definitely recommend this place to stay.

Five friends enjoyed a week at 38 Ironworks. It was comfortable, well equipped and a pleasure to live in. All our queries were answered promptly and there was plenty of information provided about the property and the surrounding area. We would definitely go again and I thoroughly recommend it. The owner was easily contacted and extremely helpful.
