A beautiful retreat for a family or a small group of friends, this charming stone-built cottage is perfectly placed to discover the bustling market town of Keswick and Derwentwater beyond.

Keswick is undoubtedly one of the most popular destinations in the Lake District. Walkers have an abundance of choice with Scafell Pike and Skiddaw, England’s highest and fourth highest mountains in proximity. Go to Borrowdale (7.5 miles) for the starting point for Scafell Pike and find Skiddaw 5.5 miles away. Blencathra, voted England’s best walk, is 7 miles away and Castlerigg Stone Circle is within 2 miles. Head to Derwentwater (0.5 miles) for a spot of sailing or pop your helmet on and get to a rocky mountain river to try ghyll scrambling. If the weather turns, try indoor climbing at Kong Adventure or visit the Puzzling Place (both 0.2 miles), and in the evening sample the local fare at one of Keswick’s numerous eateries before taking in a film at the Theatre by the Lake (0.7 miles).

Enter into this 19th-century stone-built cottage and find before you a wealth of space set over three storeys. Comfortably sleeping five guests across three bedrooms, you’ll find tranquillity in abundance thanks to the added soundproofing installed by the owners. Walking through the front door, you arrive in the spacious living/dining room, withs it’s cosy sofas in front of the wood burner and stylish dining table: perfect for kicking back after a day of walking the fells. Towards the rear of the property, you’ll find a modern kitchen with views out into the garden so you can keep an eye on the children. There’s plenty of worktop space – ideal for rustling up some local fare for five hungry mouths. You’ll find everything you need in here, including an electric oven and hob, and just to the side is the utility room which contains the washing machine, tumble dryer and fridge-freezer. Up the steep stairs to the first floor, which showcases the first two bedrooms, a double and a single, both of which have retained their original wooden beams and provide a light, airy space in which to relax. The double features a fireplace and the single includes a cute desk/dressing table. The family bathroom is found on the first floor as well and comprises a shower cubicle and a raised, free-standing bath where you can soak the day away whilst you look out on the mountain backdrop out of the window. Up on the second floor, lies the master bedroom with its vaulted ceiling and wooden beams. This room also boasts fabulous mountain views, which you can observe from either the bed or your cosy seating area.

Moving outside, you can enjoy some deserved downtime in the enclosed, walled garden which includes a pretty lawn and some garden furniture: just right for dining alfresco. There is also a garden room fitted with sofa, decorative bar and radio, the perfect place to relax on a summer's evening.  There’s on-street parking in Keswick or two pay and display car parks within 80yards of the cottage.

Fantastic, characterful cottage to stay in with easy access to the centre of Keswick & lake. Clean, well equipped with a summer house & small garden to enjoy with wild birds on the feeders. You do have to have to be ok with your mobility for the stairs leading to a beautiful bathroom, with a great view, and the bedrooms.

Lovely well equipped comfartable cottage in an amazing location. Literally a couple of minutes walk to supermarkets and a variety of very good restaurants / cafes. Lakeside Tandoori restaurant provided the best Indian cuisine we've had outside of Brick Lane. 10-15 minute walk to Derwent Water which is fabulous. Boat service picks you up and drops yRead moreou off at a variety of spots around the lake so you can hike / explore at your own pace without having to rely on a car for transport. Hide

A wonderful cottage in a fantastic location with a really comfortable bed - we slept amazingly during our stay! Very clean and all the amenities you need to cook, etc. Only a 5 minute walk to the centre of town and the nearest big supermarket (Booths).

Beautifully equipped and characterful cottage just a few minutes' walk from the centre of Keswick, even closer to Booths and Lake & Dales supermarkets, and just over the bridge from the path to Portinscale. Superb stay. Local recommendation: Friar's chocolate shop by the Moot Hall!

This is the second time we have stayed at this cottage and I would definitely return. It's such a brilliant location with Keswick literally on the door step and plenty of walks to be done from the front door. The owner is very communicative and the cottage is beautifully furnished, very comfortable and well equipped. Would recommend Theatre By The Read moreLake, Keswick Brewery, Keswick Museum and Pencil Museum - all good on a rainy day! Highly recommended The Plant Kitchen vegetarian/vegan.. Hide

An absolutely fabulous cottage, right in the heart of Keswick. It had everything we needed and was so convenient for popping into town for shopping or dinner. The hosts were extremely helpful - even warning us of a road closure on our route up!! Would definitely recommend.

Lovely cottage away from the tourist-packed streets of the town centre. The owners of this cottage clearly have good taste in decor - homely, cosy, modern and airy. Owner was good on communications, including the instructions in the property. Already booked to return.

Excellent cottage, well equipped, superb location. The cottage has real character, with a lovely walled garden - a real bonus when you are so close to Keswick town centre. Easy 2 min stroll to shops and attractions in Keswick. The cottage is compact, so might feel small if 5/6 were staying, but for 2 it was excellent. Comfortable bed, all the ameniRead moreties you need and everything worked perfectly. Excellent host, kept in communication to ensure everything was ok for us. Hide

Couldnt recommend this property enough, its set in an excellent location if you wish to be near to the town centre, close to all amenities and also only a short drive away to many hill walks (or a short walk away from derwent water). The property itself was amazing, very clean and tidy with modernisation. The property comes with fully equipped kitcRead morehen facilities including a dishwasher, washing machine and fridge/freezer. Excellent value for money and we would not hesitate to book again. Hide
