  • Spacious period townhouse 1 mile from the centre of the historic town of Cockermouth
  • Perfect base to explore the National Park
  • Take a day trip to the wild and dramatic Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
Property code: SZ037

With several social spaces, this townhouse is perfect for get-togethers with family and friends. Head into the Lake District for hiking and dramatic scenery by the tranquil shores of Derwentwater, Buttermere, Crummock, Loweswater or Ennerdale lake. Or why not escape from it all with a day at the coast.

Take a short stroll (less than 1 mile) into the centre of Cockermouth, where you’ll find a bustling Georgian market town, packed with independent shops, cafes, and restaurants. The town is the birthplace of the poet William Wordsworth, and a visit to the area wouldn’t be complete without a potter around Wordsworth House and Garden (0.5 miles). Just 8 miles away is Whinlatter Forest and Park, home of Go Ape, which makes a fantastic family day out. Whinlatter is home to stunning views, excellent walks, mounting biking and rare wildlife. Beyond Whinlatter in the Adventure Capital of England is popular Keswick where you can sample the retail and foodie delights. Alternatively, hop in the car and head to the coast (8 miles) for remote beaches and windswept clifftop paths.

Four steps lead to the front door of this exquisite property. With high ceilings, period features and stylish decor, this home-away-from-home is sure to create a memorable backdrop to your holiday. Off the hallway, you’ll find the grand lounge. This room is bathed in natural light, thanks to a wonderful bay window, and at the centre is a magnificent ornamental fireplace. Recline on the plush sofa to watch the TV or curl up in the armchair by the window to watch the world go by. The pretty dining room is another elegant space to enjoy family time together, around the large wooden table, playing board games from the selection provided or sharing a delicious hearty meal. To the rear of the cottage is the stylish kitchen, with fabulous slate worktops and sleek units. The kitchen is equipped with a Range-style electric oven with a gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, and a handy dishwasher. Two steps take you from here to the bright and airy breakfast room, which has a beautiful wooden table with benches, where you can spread out all your maps and guidebooks to plan your day’s itinerary over breakfast. A further two steps take you from here to a little snug, with two armchairs, where you can steal a few quiet moments with a newspaper and a cup of tea. Finally, completing the ground floor is a handy shower room with a WC.

Heading upstairs, you’ll find two of the four bedrooms. There’s a delightful twin and a king-size bedroom that looks out over the rooftops to the countryside beyond. This bedroom is furnished with vintage pieces and has an en-suite shower room with a WC tucked around the corner of the room. Also on the first floor is the spectacular family bathroom, which features an impressive clawfoot free-standing bath, as well as a shower and WC. The washing machine and tumble dryer are cleverly hidden in a cupboard in the bathroom. An additional WC is also located on this floor. The two remaining bedrooms are situated on the second floor. Both have lovely wooden floorboards. The double bedroom has views over the rear of the cottage and the spacious king-size bedroom looks out towards the countryside.

Outside, discover a charming, enclosed courtyard through the patio doors from the snug. This area is a real sun trap and has outdoor furniture, so you can enjoy your meals in the garden throughout the summer months. On-street parking is available less than 50 metres from the property.

Very comfortable and clean house, excellent facilities, very well equipped. The location is great, just a short walk into Cockermouth. Our dogs enjoyed Harris Park and the riverside walks as well as our longer walks further afield. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to return in the future.

We had a great time but the property was very dusty with loads of cobwebs that had obviously been there for a long time and the downstairs bathroom was unusable. Parking was a bit of an issue as there were 7 of us so we had 2 cars. Overall though we would return.

Beautiful town house, really spacious and well equipped everything you need. The rooms are light & airy and beds are super comfy. The property is ideally located for travelling to places of interest and there's an Aldi, Lidl & Sainsbury's all close by to stock up on groceries. Would definitely recommend

Really enjoyed this cottage. Lots of space for our group to sit together or split up. Parking is a (small) pain but not significant. The nearby park with red squirrels is lovely. Lots of nearby shops. The master bedroom has an en suite shower and basin but no loo. We would highly recommend it.

The cottage was lovely. Really impressed with the space provided especially as there was 8 adults. Cockermouth quieter than thought but was a great location for seeing what Lake District had to Offer. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay which was good with age range of 17 to 62.

Very nice, clean, spacious home. In a nice location with a good secured back patio area for our dog. House is equipped with everything needed. Bin liners are kept in the shed. Good communication with Sallys Cottages who got a new dishwasher installed within two days. Would recommend.

Overall, a roomy and comfortable house within walking distance to the centre of Cockermouth. Parking close to the house could be difficult, particularly at the weekend. There are many areas of interest in close proximity to the house and the coast is not too far. We were lucky and experienced hot weather so were able to swim in lakes and sea. Good Read moreshopping for provisions in the town which is quieter than other places in the Lake District. We had a most enjoyable week. Hide

Great place - Lots of room and has everything you need and more! Beds are fantastic! Had a great stay and would highly recommend it! Garden is secure and enclosed which was great for dogs - just be careful when window cleaner has been as he doesnt close back gate after he is finished.

Lovely house, very clean, very well equipped and great location to walk into Cockermouth or drive out to the Lakes. Harris Park is just 10/15 mins walk so lovely for little ones and their four legged friends to let off some steam. It was such a nice touch to have the Christmas tree too! Thank you Claire and family x

We had a lovely stay at Moreland Place, house was huge and more than fitted our needs. It was homely enough for us all to feel together but plenty of room for us all to have private space too. House was immaculately clean and cant fault anything. It was dark by the time we got there & I would suggest to take a torch with you to navigate some steps Read moreat the front & back if checking in at night time. We would definitely recommend & rebook this property, we had a great stay! Thanks! Hide
