The town is the birthplace of the poet William Wordsworth, and a visit to the area wouldn’t be complete without a potter around Wordsworth House and Garden (0.5 miles). Just 8 miles away is Whinlatter Forest and Park, home of Go Ape, which makes a fantastic family day out. Alternatively, hop in the car and head to the coast (8 miles) for remote beaches and windswept clifftop paths.

The kitchen is equipped with a Range-style electric oven with a gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, and a handy dishwasher. Two steps take you from here to the bright and airy breakfast room, which has a beautiful wooden table with benches, where you can spread out all your maps and guidebooks to plan your day’s itinerary over breakfast. A further two steps take you from here to a little snug, with two armchairs, where you can steal a few quiet moments with a newspaper and a cup of tea.
