Enjoying a tranquil spot in the picturesque hamlet of Skelwith Fold, this pretty 17th-century Grade II-listed cottage makes a fantastic family retreat in the heart of the Lake District. Offering cosy, warm and characterful accommodation for four guests, this delightful, terraced property has been beautifully updated while retaining many traditional features including wooden beams, an impressive fireplace and warming wood burner. This tastefully decorated and elegantly furnished cottage makes a wonderful base for discovering Windermere, Grasmere and Rydal Water.

Entering this adorable property, a step leads up into the warm and traditional lounge. With plenty of seating, a wood burner, TV and a handy book nook with rocking chair, the rustic feel of the lounge makes this a relaxing and peaceful space to unwind in. Exploring further, the pretty dining room is ideal for everyone to get together to enjoy a favourite family meal, which you can prepare in the spacious kitchen. Upstairs, there’s a handy bathroom and two peaceful bedrooms: a light and cosy twin room, and the double room with wood-panelled walls and far-reaching rural views.

The cottage is just a mile from Skelwith Bridge, a small village near the Skelwith Force waterfall. The charming town of Ambleside (2.5 miles) has an array of independent shops, restaurants pubs and a couple of cinemas. The immense lake of Windermere is a great location for water sports, ferry trips and spectacular lakeside walks (3 miles). Bowness-on-Windermere (7.5 miles) is home to The World of Beatrix Potter, with other attractions including the Beatrix Potter Gallery in Hawskshead, Hill Top, Claife Heights and The Old Man of Coniston (all within 10.5 miles).

What a find. Lovely quiet location. Easy to find if you follow the directions provided. Well equipped and very comfortable. Storage heaters warmed it up and the log fire was fab on very cold evenings. A beautiful cottage in a lovely, quiet location. Lovely to wake up to peace and quiet. Some lovely birds visit the front garden which was lovely to see. Lovely stay in a cozy but spacious cottage. Felt like we were in a remote hideaway, but still able to access all amenities within a couple of miles. Would definitely go again.

The cottage is so comfortable and well equipped. Everything has been thought about, Wi-Fi slow but to be expected, love the position so quiet yet easy to walk to Skelwith and Ambleside. Lanes very narrow to cottage but be brave and drive sensibly. We will definitely return.

This is a beautiful cottage with a lovely blend of old & new. The downstairs was more spacious than it looked on the website which was a nice surprise. Its very comfortable & cosy. The kitchen has everything you need. The location is very peaceful but only a mile from Skelwith Bridge & a short drive to Ambleside so you dont feel too disconnected frRead moreom the world. Only downside is very slow internet connection & poor signal for watching tv. Hide

A great location for exploring the Ambleside area of the Lake District, being away from the town provides for a quiet location and restful sleep. A quiet road with little traffic, however drivers will need to be confident when reversing vehicles as the lanes are narrow with very few passing places.

Lovely cottage in a great location. Unfortunately, the rental company holds 200 of your money hostage as a deposit when you book and takes at least 7 days to return it ( I am still waiting for mine to be returned). This seems unnecessary and I do not understand why it cant be operated in the same fashion as a hotel where a hold, but not direct debiRead moret charge, is placed on your card for the deposit and nothing is charged provided there are no damages. The owner/agents only told us the internet was not working an hour before we arrived. If they had let us know in good time we would have cancelled but telling us so late gave us no chance to make other arrangements. Their response was to try to quote contract small print that services are not guaranteed. That may or may not be the case but for the Read moreservice not to be available at the onset of hire is supplying goods/services not as described. We would not use this owner or agent again. Hide

We had a great week here with our dog, we already love the area so got to go on all our favourite walks from the cottage. With it being an older cottage we thought it might be a bit chilly as we went in November, but the cottage holds the heat really well and theres radiators in every room. The cottage is in a beautiful peaceful position, as long as you don't mind driving down narrow lanes. We had a lovely holiday, enjoying visits to Ambleside, Coniston, Grasmere and Windermere, all of which were less than 20 minutes drive away. The cottage was warm and comfortable, apart from a very firm double bed. Beautiful cottage, lovely and clean. Would need rubber Shower mat as Shower quite slippy. Information on local walks for dogs would be useful. Really enjoyed our stay. Not suitable for disabled people.

The cottage was beautiful and the location is stunning. The road to the cottage is very tight however the road from the Drunken Duck pub is better.

Bull Close is a really lovely cottage and the location is perfect. There are great walks you can go on right from the door. Ambleside is just 3.5 miles away. Its a shame there is no grass area to the gardens when this is a dog friendly house.

A lovely characterful cottage set in a quiet and pretty location. With a modern kitchen and shower room, there were more than the usual useful supplies provided. Outside sitting areas with wonderful views. Pleasant walks from the door. Plenty of car parking. 5 stars from all of us!
