Cockermouth (2 miles) is home to Wordsworth House and Garden, and has a choice of fine pubs, restaurants, boutique shops and galleries. Heading into the Lake District itself, the Lakes Distillery and the Lake District Wildlife Park (both within 10.5 miles) lie at the head of Bassenthwaite Lake. Also within easy reach is Keswick (16.5 miles) which offers a range of water sports, or you can head to Maryport on the coast (6 miles) to visit the Senhouse Roman Museum and the Lake District Coast Aquarium.
