The pretty market town of Keswick is a great base to explore from, surrounded by the mountains of Skiddaw (5 miles) and Blencathra (6 miles), and located between Derwentwater (2 miles) and Bassenthwaite (7 miles). Take a boat cruise on Derwentwater and hop on and off at the eight jetties dotted around the lake. Conquer the stunning Catbells, popular with walkers of all ages and abilities, or for something more challenging, Skiddaw is a slightly longer, higher walk at over 3,000 feet. Visit Theatre by the Lake to take in a show and stop off at Crow Park opposite, where you can get 360-degree views of the mountains along with stunning views down the lake towards the exceptionally beautiful Borrowdale valley.
