Alternatively, travel over the stunning Wrynose Pass and through to the Langdale Valley or north over the challenging Hardknott Pass (11.1 miles), the steepest road in England, pausing at Hardknott Roman Fort (12.8 miles) before descending to Eskdale (8.7 miles) and Scafell Pike (17.6 miles), England's highest mountain. Head further to Wasdale (16.6 miles) and the majestic Wastwater (20.3 miles), England's deepest lake.
