Located on the edge of the Lake District National Park, this holiday cottage is the perfect base to explore the northern Lake District and Western Fells. The rural village of Dovenby is 2.5 miles from the Georgian market town of Cockermouth, the birthplace of William Wordsworth and home to an array of shops and eateries. The coastal town of Maryport is just 5 miles away and boasts a sandy shingle beach, a Roman museum and a harbour-side aquarium. There’s a fantastic choice of local distilleries and breweries where you can book tasting sessions and tours, or you can simply nip down the road to the village pub (100 metres). If you’re looking for something more adventurous, take up wild swimming in one of the surrounding lakes including Loweswater (10 miles), Crummock Water (11 miles) and Bassenthwaite lake (9 miles), try walking an alpaca or abseil nearly 40 metres into a disused quarry – these are just a few of the activities on offer locally!

As you walk into this spacious property and into the welcoming entrance/boot room, you can kick off your shoes and hang up your coats after a busy day exploring the Lake District. Leading off from here is a convenient utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer as well as a separate WC. Heading through to the heart of the house, you will find a traditional, well-equipped kitchen complete with modern appliances and the added luxury of a coffee machine. The formal dining room is next door to the kitchen and offers a lovely place to sit down as a family to make plans for the adventures ahead and reflect on the day’s events. From here, you can head through into the main hallway and into the beautifully furnished lounge complete with a wood burner, comfortable seating, a Smart TV and views across the garden. Down the hallway, you will find the three bedrooms comprising one king-size bedroom, one double bedroom and one bunk bedroom as well as a family bathroom.

Outside, there is a spacious garden to the front of the property with outdoor seating and a lawn.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cottage. Huge property with so much space but also very homely and we loved the decorative touches for Easter. Surrounded by beautiful landscapes and views but still close to everything. Down the road for a wonderful pub that we'd highly recommend a visit. Our only downside was the 'enclosed garden'. There werRead moree multiple gaps in the fences so we had to keep our dog on a lead at all times. Hide

We had a wonderful stay at this holiday home. It was exceptionally clean and very well equipped. Jill, the owner certainly goes above and beyond and her personal touch did not go unnoticed.; with fresh flowers in every room and subtle Easter decorations. Lovely clean spacious cottage, bigger than it looks in the pics. Lovely extras like face cloths, toiletries and flowers as well as the basics of wash cloths, salt pepper, oil etc to get you started. A lovely, clean and well presented cottage. The off road parking was brilliant and our two dogs thoroughly enjoyed the large enclosed garden! Great location to explore the lakes and the sea. Would definitely recommend.
