This fantastic basement property is located near the small hamlet of Crook. Situated only 5 miles from Bowness on Windermere and 3 miles from the market town of Kendal, it’s an ideal base to explore the Lake District National Park as part of a romantic getaway. The World of Beatrix Potter is a nostalgic experience for all the family over in Bowness, and while here, you could hop on a cruise to take in the magnificent Windermere lake from the water. Venture into Kendal to try their famous cake, and for more days out, the National Trust sites of Sizergh and Fell Foot are both within 12 miles.

On entering the property, climb up two steps to the first room – a contemporary bathroom with its double-sized walk-in shower, sink and heated mirror. The bathroom is tiled in granite with an oak floor which runs throughout the property. Down the stairs (which has low headroom), you’ll find the open-plan living room and a fully fitted, equipped, modern kitchen with oven, microwave, and hob. The room is completed by a comfortable seating, a Smart TV and Bluetooth speaker with a small dining table – a perfect room for relaxing after a day exploring. Wonderful, underfloor heating runs below the entire ground floor. Just off the living area is the bedroom with a king-size bed and plenty of storage space. The bed can be split into a twin set; if this is required please state at the time of booking.

Outside there is a fully enclosed garden, with a private area designated for use by guests. It has outdoor furniture making it a great spot for a morning coffee or an evening glass of wine, taking in the views of the rolling countryside.

Beautiful little basement apartment - there is a tight staircase down to the main space, and limited headroom (circa 6 foot below the beams) - but the owners have created a great cosy holiday let, with a homely feel - with everything from books to games on the shelves, but not overbearing clutter ! The Sheep Pen is in a great location to explore the Lake District. Close to key areas such as Kendal and Windermere. The cottage was extremely clean and well equipped. Although there was no direct access to the garden, there is a gate at the side that leads you directly to the garden. We felt comfortable allowing our dog to roam freely (and had pleRead morenty of space to do so). There is an amazing bakery just down the road! Overall a very lovely stay and we will definitely be back. Hide

We stayed in the Sheep Pen for 5 nights and it was a good base and in a good position for exploring the Lake District. However the property is basically a converted basement of the main house. On entering the property there is a smart bathroom to the right and this is the only part of the property wholly above ground. From the front door there iRead mores a steep set of stairs, with restricted headroom and a protruding shelf, leading down to the main living area. This made it very difficult getting luggage in and out. The living and sleeping areas have low ceilings and beams which anyone above 5ft 10ins would find challenging. This area is mainly below ground level with only 2 small windows at eye level to the outside. There is no door on the entrance to the bedroom and downstairs there is no access to the outside garden. The underfloor heating was not working and the whole place felt damp (despite the dehumidifiers provided). The kitchen equipment had seen better days. The property was described as dog friendly but the stairs made it very difficult to get the dog in and out. The only access to the outside garden was through the front door, through the side gate and around to the back of the house. The garden is not secure so it was not possible to let the dog run free. On the positive side, the dcor is fresh & the upstairs bathroom was nice. The owners, living above, were very nice & obviously mindful that they had guests below. The location, Pound Farm in Crook, is both beautiful & ideal for exploring the lakes generally. Hide

Great location but read reviews before you book. No direct access to garden. You have to go up some very steep stairs which is a pain if you have a dog.

A well sited open plan cottage 2 miles from Staveley. A lovely garden with great views. Very cosy, good nights of sleep had right through the stay. Dog walking in the immediate area a bit limited as the camp site opposite doesn't allow dogs on their site. The bathroom is very spacious and kitchen facilities ok for a couple. There is a staircasRead moree between the bathroom (on the right as you go in) to the open plan kitchen / bedroom below. An enjoyable experience overall. Owners friendly and couldn't be more helpful. On the wall there are different instructions regarding vacating the property by 09.00am - your instructions are 10.00am. 09.00am is a bit too early to be ready to leave! Otherwise the cottage was quite comfortable. On recommending this property to a friend we would have to state that there are 11 steps to the accommodation

We had agreat week here, it was cosy and comfortable, and the location is fantastic. 10 minutes to Bowness on Windermere, 10 minutes to Kendal, 5 minutes to Staveley and the Hawkshead brewery. Be aware there are steep steps down to the living area/Bedroom, and that the toilet and bathroom are on the first floor, not a major issue when we booked bRead moreut presented a few challenges as the wife was on crutches after a broken leg, we managed though. The welcome pack was very basic (2 bottles of beer & 2 cakes) so we would recomend taking some milk, bread, butter and cereal if you are arriving late. There is an excellent cafe and bakery a couple of minutes down the road, the breakfast there is a must! Also a good bakery next to Hawkshead Brewery in Staveley, and the Sun in just down the road does great food, and Pedro's Cassa in Kendal is amazing! Overall we had a great week here, and will definitely come back. Hide
