Retreat to this quaint, single-storey beamed cottage flanked by fells and rugged Lakeland landscapes, and just half a mile from the centre of Grasmere, with its many attractions and places to eat. En route to buy the village’s unique Victorian-recipe gingerbread (sold from a 17th-century former schoolhouse), you can detour to the National Trust’s Allan Bank and Grasmere (0.5 miles). On the far side of the village, you’ll find a local brewery (1 mile) and the picturesque Town End, home to the Wordsworth Museum, tea room and gardens (1 mile). And do make the most of the wonderful countryside on your doorstep with a hike to the secluded expanse of water at Easedale Tarn (1.5 miles), or via the open pathways past the River Rothay to Elterwater (3 miles).
Stepping through the covered porch (handy for leaving muddy boots) and into the hallway, you’ll find the lounge directly to your left. This has cushy seating, a TV, a library of reading matter and dual-aspect windows providing open vistas towards Sour Milk Ghyll and the fells beyond. The kitchen is fitted with contemporary units, with a farmhouse-style kitchen table seating four – here you can gather for meals and plan the day's activities together. Continuing along the hallway there are two double bedrooms, both with their own lovely en-suite shower rooms.
Directly outside the kitchen is a garden area enclosed by hedging and fencing, with outdoor furniture. Just across the road, the property benefits from a lawned riverside area with a picnic table – you may be lucky to see some of the red squirrels who make regular visits to the gardens to feed.
