Alternatively, visit Sizergh castle (8 miles) just outside the market town of Kendal. England’s longest lake, Windermere, is 19 miles away, where you can take a boat trip around the famous lake. Stop off at Bowness for the bars and shops or Lakeside for Lakes Aquarium and the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Steam Railway.
