Keswick offers a great base to explore the Lakes either on foot, by bike, by car or by bus. The town is surrounded by mountains (Skiddaw and Blencathra) and is located between Derwentwater (3 miles) and Bassenthwaite (8 miles). Many local fells are accessible, enjoy a stroll down to the lake shores of Derwentwater to catch the launch across the lake and conquer the stunning Catbells, popular with walkers of all ages and abilities. For something more challenging, Skiddaw is a slightly longer, higher walk and, at over 3,000 feet, but on a clear day, you can see far and wide. Castlerigg Stone Circle is less than 1 mile away and dates back to the Neolithic era. Visit Theatre by the Lake, take in a show and visit Crow Park which is opposite – you can get a 360-degree view of the mountains along with stunning views down the lake towards the exceptionally beautiful Borrowdale valley. This lovingly restored Victorian property dates to 1884 and offers a fabulous base for extended family or friends looking to explore the Lakes.

The property is stylish, with lots of original features combined with a contemporary finish and design. Entering the property, you will find the impressive and welcoming hallway. The chequered flooring is a bold statement, showing off the character, style and age of the house. Off the hall to the right is the lounge with a bay window, a marble fireplace and a wood burner with comfortable seating to kick back and relax on after a long day walking or cycling. Choose a good book from the bookcase or watch a good film. Across the hallway, you will find the formal dining room where you can enjoy a hearty breakfast and make plans for the days ahead. Off the entrance hall, you will find a spacious en-suite double bedroom. The kitchen is well equipped and there is a handy utility room leading off from the kitchen. The first floor has four spacious en-suite bedrooms with TVs; the rooms are all decorated to the same high standard.

There is a private front garden with seating, and even out of season, you can enjoy a glass of your favourite drink under the covered veranda to the side of the house. It is also a great place to enjoy a coffee on a sunny morning.

  • 5 bedrooms – 1 king-size, 3 doubles and 1 zip-and-link twin (can be made up as super-king-size on request)
  • 5 bathrooms – all en-suite with showers and WCs
  • Gas range oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and microwave
  • Utility room with washing machine and airer
  • Travel cot and highchair available on request
  • Wood burner (first basket of logs provided)
  • Smart TV in the lounge and TVs in bedrooms
  • Garden seating and a covered veranda within the front garden
  • Private parking for 4 cars
  • Pubs, shops and restaurants 1 mile
  • Group bookings - these may need to be checked with the owner first before confirming

It's a lovely house and the kitchen is very well equipped. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. We had some issues with hot water showers though and the response at the time was "we would kindly ask that you try to avoid using multiple bathrooms at the same time". Might as well just have 1 family bathroom for the property if you can't shower at the same time. This was a blip in an otherwise fantastic house. Hide

One of the best houses we have rented. Kitchen equipment first class, comfortable beds, great to have each room en suite. The walk into town along the disused railway line is very nice. Good on site parking.

Overall a good property for a large party which is kept to a good decorative standard. However, the lack of a garden is a major drawback for a house of this size since there is no outside space to relax and thus gives a claustrophobic feel to it. This is also frustrating in good weather. Also, it is right on the busiest road and intersection in KesRead morewick which means it is extremely noisy. This takes away from the relaxing feel of a Lakes holiday. It is better for a cosy winter weekend away. Hide

Lovely spacious house with lots of crockery and cutlery. Owners very responsive when the main oven element broke (only 2 years old) and arranged for next day delivery of a part, to minimise disruption. We used the side oven which was fine. Great location, approx 1 mile from Keswick town centre.
