With an array of independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants, Keswick is a bustling town located between Skiddaw and Derwentwater Lake. Spend an afternoon browsing the shops, or visit the swimming pool, climbing walls and crazy golf which provide fun for all the family. Known as the outdoor capital of the Lakes, Keswick is home to lots of adventure activity providers which offer sailing, mountain biking, kayaking and ghyll scrambling. Keen walkers and hikers can tick off a few Wainwrights and tackle Skiddaw and Blencathra, both within 7 miles. Explore the lovely gardens and parkland at Mirehouse and Gardens, 4.5 miles, whilst Wordsworth House, 13 miles, offers the chance for all ages to experience life in the 1770s. Travel 25 miles to The Solway Coast for a picnic on the beach and a seaside stroll.

Spacious and comfortable, local photography and well-chosen art creates a welcoming home from home. Enter via a glass sliding door into a spacious porch with plenty of space for boots and coats and continue to the main hallway. Bathed in light from an enormous bay window, the living room has beautiful views of mountain tops, surrounding fields and woodland. Three comfortable sofas are arranged around a wood burner-effect gas fire, perfect for chilly evenings relaxing with a movie on the Sky TV. Gather everyone for formal meals in the dining room, where French doors open to the rear patio. The L-shaped kitchen is equipped with five gas hobs, a double fan oven, a large integrated fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave and washer/dryer. There is also a Nespresso coffee machine – so don't forget to bring some coffee pods! The corner table is a lovely place to enjoy a morning cup of coffee while watching the visiting birdlife. There's a WC and further storage for boots and coats in a large, walk-in cupboard. Upstairs, the master bedroom has a super-king-size bed, two large built-in wardrobes and an en-suite shower room. The double bedroom has a chest of drawers and hanging hooks for storage, while the twin bedroom can be made up as a super-king-size on request. The family bathroom has a bath and separate shower with a mixer shower and a drencher head for massaging away tired fell-walking muscles.

Outside, the rear garden has a patio and raised, perfect for picnics, ball games and making the most of the morning sunshine. A table and chairs allow for al fresco dining, sipping a glass of wine and enjoying the stunning mountain views as the sun sets. This is the second time staying at Highbank and would highly recommend it, as it is in the perfect location to access the Lake District in general, especially the west & north lakes. The property is comfortable and spacious with good facilities. The Sky Q (sports) is an extra treat. Bedrooms are a good size, two of which have wonderful views of WaRead morell Crag & Grisedale Pike, with one having an ensuite shower room. The property was warm, but there is a good heating system if required. Thanks for a great stay. Hide

Another enjoyable stay at this quietly located house with lovely gardens and off road parking. The very useful welcome bag filled with nice edibles was a delightful surprise and much appreciated. Thank you also to the housekeeper who ensures that the house is clean and comfortable ready for arrival. The good weather was an added bonus .

Highbank is a lovely house with views to the hills from the front. Bedrooms are comfortable, there was plentiful hot water and the kitchen was well equipped. The driveway is long, if rather steep, but one can park across the end of the driveway. Remember to take towels. We would certainly like to return to Highbank one day.

Overall, the house was excellent in every way. Comfortable bed in the main bedroom, and a good working shower in the family bathroom. Also a comfortable living room with Sky sports, which was a real treat. Well located in Keswick and close enough to all roads leading to the Fells. Loved it. Many thanks.

This was a lovely place to stay - it was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed for a relaxing week in Keswick. It was close enough to the town centre to walk, but far enough out to be really peaceful, so all-in-all an excellent location. We would definitely book again.

Highbank is a beautiful house, very spacious, clean, warm and comfortable, and in a great location. Derwentwater and Keswick are a short walk away, the town having lots of shops, great places to eat, and a lovely little cinema. Parking 2 cars at the house on the sloping drive was a bit tricky occasionally but the road is very quiet so it wasn't a pRead moreroblem, and anyway there are so many walks from the cottage you don't need to drive much. We only missed a tumble dryer! We would stay here again. Hide
