Property code: OC-SZ231

Studded on the cusp of Whinlatter Forest just 3.5 miles from Keswick, this impressive retreat is packed with character and sleeps eight guests. Ideal for families and friendship groups, you’ll be welcomed by two roaring wood burners and ample space to socialise in style after a day of countryside adventures. Access exciting trails through ancient woodland from your doorstep, or plan an excursion to nearby Bassenthwaite Lake 2.5 miles away to soak up the scenery. A short 3.5-mile drive will bring you into Keswick, a delightful market town with a wide range of shops and eateries as well as a popular museum and a theatre on the shores of Derwentwater.

Set against a backdrop of trees and mountains, the property is reached along a quiet country lane. An attractive oak porch leads into the traditional-style kitchen, a spacious room with slate floors, beams and antique furniture that has a surprisingly contemporary range of equipment including a double oven, induction hob, fridge and dishwasher as well as bespoke cabinetry and storage space. Next, the utility room is ideal for storing muddy coats and shoes and has a washing machine, dryer, butlers sink and a freezer. Grab a hot drink and venture into the comfortable lounge to relax by the wood burner, appreciating the comfortable sofas and the Smart TV. There is a separate snug complete with a second wood burner, seating and a TV/DVD, so no need to disagree on what to watch. Finishing off the ground floor is the family bathroom with its freestanding bath and WC. This room used to be the larder, so you’ll spot interesting features such as the original meat hooks on the ceiling. The wide staircase has numerous turns and steps leading into each bedroom, so take great care when ascending. There are four bedrooms in total, the first being a master suite with a king-size bed, pretty views and a handy en-suite shower room with a shower and WC. The double bedroom also has an en-suite shower room, although this one features a rain head-style shower and a WC, and further along the hallway is a twin bedroom with zip-and-link beds that can be converted into a super-king on request. Finally, the bunk bedroom features an adult-size single bed and bottom bunk.

Heading outside, the garden at the front of the farmhouse offers fully enclosed lawn space for children to play, whilst to the rear, there is a large patio area with garden furniture and a built-in BBQ. Sit back and unwind with a glass of wine looking out over the countryside surrounding the property, or take advantage of the excellent walking routes leading to the nearby forest.

  • 4 bedrooms – 1 king-size, 1 double, 1 twin zip-and-link and 1 bunk bedroom
  • 3 bathrooms – 1 bathroom with bath and WC, 2 en-suite shower rooms with shower and WC

  • Pub within 0.5 miles, shop within 2.5 miles

  • Please note that although there are a total of 9 sleeping spaces, your party should not exceed 8 guests
  • This property will be decorated for Christmas

We had a wonderful week. Three generations enjoyed the whole experience of being in such a quirky house. Very clean, kitchen well equipped, but poor outside seating and lounge furniture needs an update.

Lovely old farmhouse cottage. Quirky. Good base location for the northern lakes, walks from the door, very near to Keswick for a rainy day.

Beautiful old farmhouse with good modernisation which was extremely well done and in keeping. Lots of space for a couple of families although small children may struggle with some subtle variable floor levels throughout... potential trip hazards but fine for us! Really good location, lovely and quiet.

We spent a lovely week at Hall Garth Farm. The cottage is comfortable, spacious, well equipped and in a great location for walking and exploring the area. We were a group of mixed ages and all enjoyed our stay equally. This is a fantastic property for a stay in the Lakes.

A lovely, well-equipped cottage in a good location for walking up into Whinlatter Forest and the fells behind Braithwaite, secluded but an easy drive to amenities - and amazing views including Skiddaw and the Helvellyn range, looking beautifully snow-topped during our stay. Taller guests definitely need to mind their heads (especially going into thRead moree master suite), and the underfloor heating downstairs seemed to struggle a bit in the 3C temperatures we had - but all round an excellent stay. Our family stayed for a week in October and had an excellent stay at the house. It's a beautiful location with fantastic views, and good access for local walks. A well equipped house, particularly the kitchen. Very spacious too!

Hall Garth Farm is in a superb location and extremely private. The house is full of character, heads need to be ducked in a few places and the stairs in some parts need careful negotiation. There is plenty of space for a large family or group. The bedrooms are spacious and the beds very comfortable. Plenty of walks nearby and for family fun the WhiRead morenlatter forest has Go Ape, a Gruffalo Trail and Bike hire facilities. Of course wonderful views and Lakes to discover. Keswick is easy for shops Hide
