Let's start with the location. Rainbow cottage is in the beautiful location of Bassenthwaite, just 10 steps from the sun inn. The cottage it's self COULD be a 10/10 if it wasn't for the bits that let it down. The entrance door is very stiff to open. Once in side there is a strong smell of damp. Into the kitchen, there are cupboard doors which are oRead moren broken hinges, the microwave needs a deep clean, the element in the top oven has broken loose from it's fittings, the radiator top is rusty. All the paint work needs a refresh. In the lounge the front door has damp and mould issues along with the surrounding brickwork. Also the woodwork and walls need a refresh with paint. As you go up the staircase the walls and woodwork need a refresh. In the bathroom the toilet is situated far too close to the dated towel radiator. There is also no power to the shower whatsoever. Main double bedroom, the bed frame needs to be tightened up and the mattress thrown away. Overall rainbow cottage needs a deep clean and to be given a lick of paint Hide

The cottage is lovely and just what you need after a day of walking and activities. Located perfectly, to walks, Keswick town centre. If you like a quite small village where all you can hear is the sheep and the babbling of a stream this is for you! A short drive from Keswick for supplies and a great chippy and nice cafes. Clean with all the utilities you require - a real cottage so watch your head if tall. Handy for Skiddaw (took us about 6 hours), the local lake and not too farRead more from other main sights - we did Ambleside waterfalls, Grasmere (gingerbread, Rydal Hall) and Scale Force. Parking okay for medium car. Pub food yum! Hide

Beautiful cottage in a great location. Lots of space and very comfortable. Warm inside, but it was July. We had a brilliant stay as a family of 5. Great walking from the door of the cottage. The pub you can almost touch from the front door was excellent too!

The cottage is in a lovely quiet village over the road from a very popular pub. The views from the back area are lovely and it was great to sit out when the weather was good. Some good walks from the door. Hide

Great location for exploring the lakes. The pub opposite serves the most delicious food and the takeaway pizza, after a long walk, was a bonus. Comfy, cosy cottage and value for money.

Rainbow Cottage is a beautiful cottage not far outside Keswick. It is very comfortable and well equipped with everything you might need for self catering. There's a lovely pub right opposite and I was a little worried that it might be noisy but once inside the cottage you can't hear a thing. We had a lovely meal there one night, another nearby eateRead morery worth a mention was Bassenthwaite Lake Station where you're sat in old railway carriages! Delicious food and dogs welcome.
