Situated in Eskdale Green village, this semi-detached cottage boasts wonderful features from stone-flagged floors, and antique furniture to ornamental fireplaces. Outside, the property’s raised setting offers panoramic views of the Cumbrian countryside. Hop on two wheels or enjoy valley walks right from your doorstep. Travel back in time on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway (6.5 miles). Pack a picnic and head for a day by the coast (7.5 miles). Discover Muncaster Castle (6 miles) where you can see birds of prey in flight. Go wild swimming in Wast Water or take on one of Wainwright’s treks and venture to the summit of Illgill Head (6.5 miles) before rewarding your efforts with a delicious pub lunch.

Step up to the front door of this handsome property and into the hallway where there’s space to leave muddy boots. Inside, you’re greeted with sumptuous country-style interiors, decorated in restful blue, green and pink tones. Warm hands by the open fire in the living room and admire the local artwork and grandfather clock before sinking into squishy leather seating after a long hike on the hills. Rustle up delicious family feasts in the well-equipped kitchen which features an electric double oven with ceramic hob, fridge, freezer, microwave, counter-top dishwasher and a convenient washing machine. Stay cosy as you gather to eat by the warming electric fire in the dining room. After dinner, enjoy films on the smart TV, or choose from the selection of books and curl up for a good read in the snug armchairs – there’s also a TV with Freeview here, along with a fun football table. Head upstairs, past the large colourful stained-glass window, to find three cosy bedrooms, each with handsome furniture, ample storage; the high ceilings have some sloping areas in keeping with the historic character of the cottage. There’s two king-size bedrooms, both with ornamental fireplaces and a freeview tv, and a twin bedroom with garden views. A large family bathroom with a free-standing claw bath, a separate shower, and WC completes the accommodation.

Outside, there’s a covered seating area where you can also store bikes. Stone steps lead up from the sloping lawn to a raised terrace with garden furniture – perfect for al fresco dining. Relax and listen to birdsong from the neighbouring woods, or enjoy the views over the Eskdale Valley – you can even spot heritage steam trains in the distance. Off-road parking is available on the driveway for two cars (not suitable for low cars); additional parking is available in the village. The garden and driveway are enclosed by double five-bar gates. We were disappointed with the standard of the cottage but the location was everything we had hoped for.

Rather outdated property in beautiful, peaceful location. The house is very dark at the back. Sadly the pleasant garden loses the sun from early afternoon. The house boasts a dishwasher, which is too small to be of any use; certainly not adequate for 6. The nearby village shop/Post Office is remarkably well stocked. As advertised the driveway is veRead morery steep and high risk of grounding normal saloon size cars. Hide

Rock How was a beautiful place to stay. We stayed over Christmas so big thanks to the owners for the festive decorations which were hugely appreciated. The kitchen was well-equipped, the beds were comfy and the house was warm and cosy. The wood or coal open fire was a great touch. NB The drive is quite steep and narrow -our vehicle was fine and mosRead moret normal-sized cars will have no problem entering or exiting but larger vehicles could be a tight fit. However there is parking on the road too. Hide

Lovely cottage, cosy with good location to explore the valleys. Quite old fashioned feel. But The owners need to pay attention to cleanliness esp the shower. It was a bit gross. Some of the kitchen stuff is old and needs to be replaced. The tiny dishwasher isnt worth the space. A bit of love and attention would bring this cottage up.
