At the top of the hill on the outskirts of town, those with a love of the great outdoors will be in their element at this charming Lakeland cottage, with enough walking trails from the front door that you could try a different route each day of your holiday without ever needing to move the car! Don your hiking boots and walk less than a mile to the mysterious Castlerigg Stone Circle which dates back to around 3,000BC, climb the local fell of Latrigg (3 miles) for breathtaking views over Keswick, or tackle the mighty Blencathra (5.5 miles) if you’re up for a real challenge. Just 3 miles away is the quaint village of Threlkeld which you can reach via a lovely stroll along the Keswick to Threlkeld Railway Trail, and Derwentwater is 3.5 miles away and boasts a 10-mile circular walking route around the lake, as well as a range of water sports.

Step inside this semi-detached cottage into the hallway and discard your coats and boots. To the right is a cosy lounge, with a sofa and armchairs arranged around an electric fire – a great spot to put your feet up and unwind after an invigorating day on the fells. There’s a TV for entertainment, or if you fancy a bit of peace and quiet, slip into the seat of the bay window with a paperback for a while. A sliding door leads from here into the dining room where you can gather for homecooked meals or spread out your maps and guidebooks and plan your next adventures. French doors lead from the dining room to the rear garden. To the rear of the cottage is a well-equipped kitchen with lovely views of the garden and fells beyond, featuring an electric oven and gas hob, microwave, dishwasher and fridge/freezer, as well as a handy washing machine and tumble dryer. Ascend to the first floor where you’ll find three restful bedrooms. The master king-size bedroom enjoys fantastic fell views and offers plenty of storage. There is also a twin room with a pleasant outlook over the surrounding rooftops to the countryside beyond, and a single room. When you fancy a relaxing soak, there is a family bathroom on this floor with a shower over the bath. The WC is separate from the bathroom.

To the front of the cottage is a garden boasting views over the surrounding rooftops and at the rear, is another delightful garden with a lawn and patio area with outdoor garden furniture – a pretty spot for dining alfresco. There is parking on the drive for three cars.

Garden sadly not dog safe as there are no gates to stop dogs from accessing busy main road. Resorted to pulling wheelie bins across drive to block them in back garden. Other than that, everything about the house was excellent ! Dont waste time trying to log onto Wi-Fi by using password on router, as it wasnt recognised by any devices ! QR code oRead moren router (although mysteriously taped over )worked instantly !!

Slightly further out of town than we usually like. Good sized house with some general wear and tear and updating required. Some other feedback provided to owner.

This is a lovely house and well kept house in a great location. Theres so much to do right on the doorstep and being on the disused railway makes it easy to get into town. Weve enjoyed it so much that weve stayed there 3 consecutive years! We were caught out this year as the description has changed and I didnt read it before booking so while it is Read morea dog friendly house the lovely garden is no longer enclosed. Despite the cottage needing a general maintenance spruce up, it's in a great location, only 10 mins or so into the town centre and Latrigg up the road. Nice size rooms, comfy bed and the fluffy towels are lush as it the shower. My main issue is that the cottage was advertised as being 'dog friendly' yet the garden is not secure, which meant my dog Read morecould not go outside on his own :( Hide

Excellent entertainment package. Comfortable lounge. Noise from main roads each side. Garden open so not dog friendly. Catering equipment variable in quality, but sufficient.

Lovely house and equipped to a very high standard. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Given some earlier reviews we were worried about the hill but this posed no problem. Plenty of walks straight from the doorstep and only 15 mins walk into the centre of Keswick so was good not to have to take the car out. Only downside is the road it stands on can be buRead moresy at weekends and commuter time but that would not stop me recommending a stay here and I would come back. . Hide

Lovely little cottage with nice modern fittings. It is in a great spot for both walking into Keswick (about 20-25 mins down the railway path) and catching the bus (bus stop is right outside the house). Highly recommend bringing your own tea bags (not included) and toilet rolls as we were only left half a roll to cover 4 days!
