Located in the tiny hamlet of Santon Bridge, this pretty property has plenty to do on the doorstep. If the World’s Biggest Liar Competition is being held when you’re there, make sure you head down to the local pub to listen to the entrants’ spectacular fibs. Everyone can enjoy llama and alpaca trekking from the Woolly Farm just 1 mile down the road, while some might prefer to take a walk up to Irton Pike (1.5 miles). Get an audio tour around Muncaster Castle (5.5 miles) from Tom Fool the court jester, or take the children to the gardens to explore the enchanted trails and play area. Also, make sure you travel through spectacular scenery on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway (5 miles).

Step into the cottage through the back door and into a handy utility room where you can hang coats and store boots; there’s also cupboard space and a fridge/freezer in here. Next, move through to the beautiful kitchen/diner where exposed beams and stunning original brick features make it a pleasure to cook in. A fan oven is built into the old sandstone hearth and is a true feature of the room; there’s also five gas hobs, a microwave and lots of storage. The built-in dining table which seats four uses the floor space well and blends perfectly with the gorgeous stone floor. In the living room, sofas and armchairs arranged around the wood burner make for a cosy spot on chilly evenings, watching the Smart TV; exposed beams and a charming ceiling-mounted clothes area add to the traditional feel of the property. Up the staircase from the kitchen area, you’ll reach a light and airy landing with the bedrooms. The main double bedroom has a peaceful feel with neutral decor and stripped floorboards giving it a farmhouse feel. A wonderful ornamental fireplace adds character to the room. The other comfortable double bedroom has stunning views of the Wasdale Fells from the window as well as plenty of clothes storage space. From the landing, there is a step down into the bathroom which has stylish tiling, a delightful picture window and a shower over the bath.

Outside, moving through the lane at the back of the row of cottages, an enclosed garden with a lawn and dining bench is perfect for al fresco meals; enjoy the view and the peace while the children play. There’s an allocated parking space for one car outside the property as well as a lockable garage which house the machine and tumble dryer as well as room for bike storage.

A lovely cottage with easy access to western peaks as it's a short drive from wasdale. Also close to the beach at Drigg which our dog loves for a good run. The cottage is warm with really responsive central heating when you need it and crucially plenty hot water for a bath after a days walking. Beds are comfy, kitchen has what you need and the TV iRead mores the easiest I've ever dealt with in a self catering house! Wed definitely return Hide

We had a really lovely stay in Gable Cottage. Great base for exploring Wasdale etc. Comfortable beds, clean and tidy. Garden was great for the dog - it's not connected to the house -you have to cross the path and go in through the gate. There would be stunning views from the garden if the back hedge was trimmed down a bit. If walking directly from Read morethe cottage, you have to walk on the road before reaching footpaths, but beaches are close by and fabulous. 100% recommended - thank you! Hide
