Escape to the Lake District with your loved ones to this bright and beautifully designed holiday home set in the beautiful and historic village of Chapel Stile set in the heart of the Langdale valley. Spend a glorious day exploring the charming village of Grasmere (3 miles), which was once home to poet William Wordsworth. Visit the Wordsworth Museum to learn about the poet’s life, and sample the famous Grasmere Gingerbread, which was a big treat during the 19th century. Alternatively, head off to the pretty town of Ambleside (5 miles) to browse the independent shops and cafes. Tour the Armitt Museum for insights into the cultural history of the Lake District, or take a stroll to Stock Ghyll Force (5.5 miles), a picturesque 70-foot waterfall. Come home in the evening to relax with a glass of wine as you take in the spectacular fell views from the cottage’s cosy living area. Chapel Stile itself is well renowned with walks from the doorstep, with the Wainwrights pub 0.2 miles away. Enjoy a 0.8 mile walk to Elterwater for a bite to eat in the local pub or a walk from the doorstep over Silverhowe to Grasmere. The famous Cathedral Caves 4.8 miles away are a scenic walk on foot directly from the cottage.

Sleeping four guests across two bedrooms, this is an ideal accommodation choice for small families or groups of friends in search of a stylish retreat to call home while they discover the wild beauty of the Lake District together. Step inside this stylish cottage and you’ll be welcomed by a generous top-floor space which features two sumptuous bedrooms. Head downstairs and you’ll find an elegant open-plan living/kitchen/dining area that comes complete with a wood burner and high-quality decor. Snuggle up on the sofa and make yourself at home in the living area before heading to the sleek, compact kitchen area to rustle up some dinner for your loved ones. Share a sociable meal at the stylish dining table and then head back to the living area to pour yourself a glass of wine and catch up on your favourite TV shows. At the end of the day, climb the staircase to the first floor and choose from one of the two thoughtfully decorated, king-size bedrooms – one with an en-suite shower room. The cottage is in a great location, close to loads of walking paths, a pub and a shop. There were several days I didn't use the car :) It was well-equipped and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. I would recommend it for a couple, small family especially if you have dogs. The outside warm water tap was definitely appreciated by my two!

A beautiful cottage in a stunning location. It was definitely a home away from home with every detail considered. We would recommend and hopefully one day return for more beautiful walks from the door.

We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage and loved Chapel Stile. It was well equipped with everything we needed and was comfortable, quiet and cosy. The terrace has beautiful views and gets great sunshine on a warm day! We had no issues parking and parked lower down before the hill up to the cottage. The cottage is in a great location with some loRead morevely walks from the doorstep, lots of places to visit within easy reach, and some great pubs/cafes nearby (the local pub is very friendly, The Britannia in Elterwater was a nice old school pub and Chesters by the River did brilliant cakes, bread and coffee) and you can even get the bus to Ambleside or up the hill to a lovely pub with wonderful views (Lanty Slees Stickle Barn). We would be happy to return again! Hide

So enjoyed our stay here. I didnt want to go home. The cottage is nestled on a hill right next to the church with a beautiful view. It has everything you need for a great stay. The welcome basket was also a wonderful touch. The local pub had great ales and food but getting a seat was sometimes tricky as it was very popular. More pubs only 15 Read moremins walk away. Would definitely stay again but maybe not at peak season. Hide

Undergarth Cottage was just Superb for our Family (Two adults, Two Kids and Dog). We barely left the Great Langdale Valley all week because there was so much to keep us occupied. We really enjoyed the open plan tiny living and short walk to the Wainwright pub for lovely food and local ale. Although you can't park directly outside there are spaces iRead moren front of the church and we never had issues finding somewhere. We recommend walking from the front door up and over silver howe and into Grasmere. It's only 2 miles as the crow flies and you can jump on the bus back to Chapel Stile. Hide
