This property's stunning views have to be seen to be believed, set in the beautiful Lake District National Park near the town of Cockermouth. Cockermouth is only a short drive away and has an abundance of eateries and shops so you will not be found wanting. Keswick is only a short drive away - a tourist hot spot, which provides an array of independent shops, eateries, galleries, and parks to enjoy all on the shores of Derwentwater. Bassenthwaite Lake is the most northerly lake in the region and is a great place to head out on the water. On the northern shore of the lake, the Lakes Distillery offers tasting tours and is also home to a bistro and a group of resident alpacas who visitors are able to hand feed.

On arrival, you will be greeted by the spacious yard partially shared with farming activities and the historic farmhouse itself. Enter through the porch and front door into the lounge, which is equipped with plenty of seating, including three large sofas, with Smart TV and cosy wood burner. To the left, you will find yourself in the amazing sunroom with stunning views over the fields and fells beyond with plenty of seating to choose from. Off the sunroom is the boot room equipped with a small drinks fridge and plenty of space to hang and dry out those coats and boots after a day of exploring all the incredible walks, including the Allerdale Ramble right from your door. Next, you enter the impressive dining room with a large hardwood table and chairs for those family feasts. Off the dining room, a well-equipped pantry has a dishwasher and sink, and plenty of crockery. Continue through the dining room into the country-style kitchen, a cook’s dream, with an electric Range oven with hob and double-oven, microwave, and plenty of preparation space. Next door is the utility room which holds the fridge/freezer, additional fridge, a chest freezer, as well as a washing machine, separate tumble dryer along with plenty of space to store supplies for your holiday. Back into the kitchen head past a WC, into the lounge. The first double bedroom, the farmhouse’s original dairy, is on the ground floor with views up the Derwent Valley and a shower room with a shower and WC. Back out into the lounge and head up the stairs to the first floor, turning right you will find a double bedroom with an en-suite shower room with shower and WC with amazing views south across the National Park. Next are two twin rooms both with an en-suite shower room with shower and WC. Up to two steps we find two double bedrooms, also with en-suite shower room with shower and WC. Head along the upstairs corridor and we have the final two rooms which are both super-king-size bedrooms equipped with en-suite bathrooms with shower over the bath and WC.

The property boasts amazing views over the countryside. The area at the bottom of the yard  is a perfect spot to relax and fully appreciate your surroundings. There is ample private on-site parking.

A lovely house that was great value for money, especially when staying the week with a large group. The sunroom was absolutely glorious for a group of crafters and was wonderful to spend time in, especially in the rain, and the living room and beds were all very comfortable and functional. The dining room table is huge, which was great for cutting Read morecloth, doing puzzles and playing board games. It's in a really good location, with essential shops, Keswick and Bassenthwaite Lake nearby along excellent roads (only one very short length of single track), and you can see Skiddaw from the windows, which inspired us to go see it closer up! This isn't a luxury house, but it has everything needed and it was absolutely great for somewhere to meet for a holiday between Scotland and the South of England. It's worth being aware that check-in time is 5pm, especially if coming from a long way away. The kitchenware was somewhat eclectic but we had almost everything we needed; would recommend bringing a sharp knife. The main kitchen dishwasher didn't work, but this wasn't a problem as there was another one in the smaller kitchen, and plenty of trays plus a rather fun wheeling tray table. We're hoping to book again for next year, would absolutely recommend! Hide

Redmain Hall promises so much, but it was nowhere near the standard of holiday home we have become used to during the last 36 years of annual holidays as a group of 6 couples. The bedrooms were inadequately furnished, some with no hanging rail or wardrobe and some without any drawers or shelf space and although the water pressure was very fierce, iRead moret took 7 minutes at full power to get hot water flowing in our bedroom, with a great deal of noise! There was black mould inside the shower cubicles. The downstairs has a strange layout - utility room at one end, then the kitchen with a slope down to the dining room and the "pantry" room at the end. The working dishwasher is in the pantry and the dishwasher in the kitchen is not working - apparently the owners are not going to replace it. All the crockery is stored in the kitchen, so it has to be carried from one end of the house to the other, down/up the slope, before/after washing! The crockery needs to be replaced, some items are chipped and all the plates have a crazed surface. The handrail, on the slope, was not fixed securely to the wall when we arrived and the push buttons on a toilet flush were broken, but when we called maintenance these problems were promptly remedied. The information book in the house says " the barbecue, tables and seating area are for guest's enjoyment" - the barbecue was a rusty wreck with a hole in the bottom!! On the plus side the house is in a fabulous location with wonderful views. Hide

Pros: beautiful scenery. Lots of parking, enough space indoors for the guests with plenty of seating. Heated flooring downstairs. Overall the bedrooms were good, and we all liked having our own en-suites. Cons: it could definitely be cleaner, there was coffee still left in the French presses, lots of dust and dirt underneath all sofas and sidebRead moreoards. Cobwebs over a lot of windows. A leaking shower that was dripping through the lounge ceiling onto one of the sofas. Not all the amenities advertised were available. A lot of the kitchen equipment is damaged, making them useless. All in all, the property needs a little bit more attention to the cleaning and maintenance, and replacing some kitchen equipment. We enjoyed our stay but if youve booked this cottage bring some kitchen equipment with you (knives, chopping boards, oven gloves, teaspoons, frying pan) and prepare to need to sweep the floors. Hide

The house is well located & comfortable, very cosy & cleaned beautifully on arrival. Wonderful views & spacious rooms. Maintenance is an issue however, we stayed here one year & and many of the problems we experienced then still have not been resolved - its impossible to unlock the kitchen door from the inside, & the downstairs toilet takes foreverRead more to refill & wobbles. Disappointed to find the kitchen dishwasher broken - not ideal with 13 people to cook for. No reply to message sent during stay Hide

Beautiful farmhouse in a lovely setting. Comfortable in terms of seating, dining area and beds, however there was few niggles. When we arrived the heating and lights werent working, and we had to sort out the fuse. Had problems with heating and radiators all weekend which meant bedrooms were generally colder. If youre not a fan of spiders, be warneRead mored lots of spiders (dead and alive) and spiderwebs throughout the house. Also kitchenware needed washing before use and there is a lack of glasses. Comfortable and warm sunroom, but heating could not be adjusted and few windows opened in any of bedrooms. Lovely views from garden, ie the parking lot in front of house, but seating (two benches) was broken and not maintained. On entry, Cleanliness was very dodgy in two of the 8 bedrooms and bathrooms, though maintenance came quickly when called.
