This fantastic architect-designed retreat sits at the foot of the Langdale Valley, offering four guests the opportunity to explore Cumbria's beautiful countryside and the majestic lakes and fells of the national park. The property is located in Skelwith Bridge, just a few metres from the River Brathay, Skelwith Force and a wonderful riverside cafe that draws visitors from miles around. Follow an easy footpath to tranquil Elter Water (0.5 miles), admiring views of Loughrigg and Silver How from its peaceful banks. In the opposite direction, the river winds its way towards Lake Windermere (2.5 miles), a hub for water-based activities including lake steamer cruises, boat hire and scenic walking or mountain biking routes along its shoreline. Ambleside is just a little further on (3 miles), a classic Lakeland town with picturesque winding streets, independent shops, welcoming pubs and cafes, plus an independent cinema and indoor climbing wall.

The painted exterior panelling of this standalone home adds character and charm, so make your way up the gravel driveway and take in the surroundings. Inside, you'll find generous rooms with high ceilings, original beams and plenty of natural light. The kitchen is well-equipped with all the essential appliances needed to prepare delicious meals. Move through to the lounge-come-dining space, where a table for four sits beside the wood burner, creating a cosy setting for mealtimes on cooler evenings. Comfortable seating, including a sofa and armchairs, is arranged around a TV for relaxed nights in after a day of adventure. Both bedrooms are conveniently located on the ground floor: one king-size and one twin, each dressed in crisp linens with lovely views to wake up to. A fully tiled shower room completes the interior, offering a bright and refreshing space.

The wrap-around garden truly sets this property apart. Surrounded by towering trees, the shared acre of grounds often attracts a variety of wildlife, including deer, rabbits and woodpeckers, so keep watch while relaxing outdoors or from the comfort of the lounge. Excellent location. The cottage is well equipped and had everything and more that we needed. This is our second time staying and we took advantage of the lovely walks right on the doorstep. The deer came to see us on our last day which was very special.

This is the 4th time weve stayed at Carr Crag pavilion as its comfortable and a great base for exploring the area. A stones throw from the Skelwith Bridge hotel and Chesters, a delightful (vegetarian) cafe, and the river Brathay, the pavilion is tucked away up a short track and beautifully quiet and peaceful. For us, the Pavilion has everything wRead moree need and is well equipped for self catering. The owner has recently installed a lovely new fitted kitchen with hugely improved cupboard space and worktop area for food preparation. The bathroom has underfloor heating and heated towel rail and an excellent shower. The bedrooms are spacious with plenty of hanging space and drawers, and the beds comfortable after a long day. We like to walk, and even after 4 visits are still finding new places to explore without getting in the car. Skelwith Bridge is an excellent central location for visiting Grasmere, Ambleside, Windermere, Coniston and many more places. Weve already booked for next year as weve yet to find anywhere that suits us better! Hide

The cottage was stayed at was absolutely faultless. We really enjoyed having breakfast and evening drinks outside in large garden. Excellent prompt service from lake land retreat when we were missing a high chair.

We've just had 3 days at the property (end of Jan 25), everything was as described and we were blessed with blue skies and a really quiet Lakedistrict! The lodge was perfect for 3 adults and a dog, with the lovely garden at the back being a great space for Charlie (the dog!) to roam. The property is about 50m from a great river walk/run, with a rouRead morend trip to Elterwater being about 3 miles. I was hoping to do a run to Ambleside but the river path doesn't head in that direction, so it's the 'A' road or over the Loughrigg fell, which I only half did... Nice riverside cafe providing great cakes and lunch food, there's also a hotel/bar, though its very quiet in Jan, so Ambleside was only a 10-15min The lodge was really homely and warm, the log fire (and storage heater if you need it) gives out great heat, the place was really clean and there was plates, glasses, utensils aplenty. Check-in instructions and the odd query via Michelle were really efficient, so overall a fab break. Hide

A Peaceful Retreat in the Heart of the Lakes. A truly serene & centrally located gem, offering the perfect base for exploring the Lake District. Nestled in a secluded yet convenient spot, it provided the ideal starting point for countless adventures. The owners were very welcoming & even added a festive touch with Christmas decorations, which we grRead moreeatly appreciated. The holiday home is practical for walkers & dogs, comfortable, lovely and warm, with excellent facilities that made our stay thoroughly enjoyable. From the doorstep, there are fantastic opportunities for walks and runs, and a great pub serving delicious food is just a minute or two away on foot. Ambleside is only a short distance away, offering great shopping and amenities. This cozy pavilion became our "base camp" for mountain adventures and provided a wonderful setting to celebrate Christmas and New Year with friends. We can't recommend it highly enough for anyone seeking a peaceful yet adventurous retreat in the Lakes. Hide

Beautiful location, lovely cottage. Rooms were spacious and well appointed with everything you could need, except a washer/drier or a decent place to dry clothes/boots which was a little tricky with it being the rainy lakes!! Otherwise lovely and would happily revisit :-)
