Escape with your nearest and dearest to this gorgeous ground-floor apartment set in the dreamy Lakeland town of Ambleside. Sleeping four guests across two restful bedrooms, it's the ideal accommodation choice for couples or small groups in search of a peaceful retreat to call home while they discover the beauty of the Lake District together. Stroll down to Waterhead Pier (1 mile) and board a scenic cruise to Bowness or Lakeside, or hire your own boat to explore at your own pace. Soak up the local heritage with a visit to Rydal Mount (2 miles) – the former home of poet William Wordsworth. Further afield, the picturesque village of Grasmere (4 miles) invites you to walk around the lake's shoreline, sample the region's famous gingerbread, and visit St Oswald's Church – where William Wordsworth is buried.

Follow the stone steps to the apartment entrance, kick off your muddy walking boots in the porch, and step inside to be greeted by the property's social heart – the open-plan living space. This chic and light-filled room combines a restful lounge with an airy dining area, inviting you to sit back and unwind together between days of outdoor adventure. When stomachs rumble, the traditional kitchen boasts everything needed for cooking holiday feasts, which can be enjoyed back in the dining space or alfresco out on the patio. When it's time to call it a night, two stylish bedrooms offer a great night's sleep: choose from a master double room with an en-suite bathroom, and a cosy twin bedroom served by the family bathroom.

Step out onto the patio each day to unwind under the Lakeland sun and listen to the sounds of nearby Stock Ghyll Force. Here, you can gather at the outdoor furniture for al fresco morning coffees and evening meals, all while taking in the peaceful scenery. Private parking for one car is also available, making arrivals and day trips a breeze.

Lovely cottage. 3rd visit. 10 minutes walk to Ambleside if you walk through the estate.

Lovely, well appointed ground floor apartment. This is our 6th stay and 6th property in Ambleside and it has probably the nicest outlook/garden etc, , although the gate was missing so we couldn't let our dog out off the lead unfortunately. Beautiful location next to the waterfall. Lovely garden furniture which we didn't use due to time of year. InsRead moreide, the rooms were pleasantly decorated and the bathrooms were modern and fresh. No complaints about the property itself, dropped a point simply due to the location being a distance up a steep hill from the town centre. We knew this before we booked it but after staying, we have decided it's not for us. It became a big of a drag after a few days. We have always stayed right in the town on previous holidays so we wouldn't return to this one for that reason. Overall, a lovely stay. Hide

Great location and a lovely apartment

Reviewed by Greg 15th September 2025

Accommodation is lovely and great value for money. Very roomy with a wonderful secure garden with plenty of seating areas and loungers with a bbq although the weather was awful so was not used. The only reason for the rating of 4 stars is although the location is good and out the way from the very busy streets of Ambleside , to walk to the accommodRead moreation can be very troublesome. Hardly any paths with roads narrow and uphill so cars were racing by giving you little room. Would suggest quite dangerous for toddlers, pushchairs and as we found out dogs. Cars would fly by leaving us inches to spare after stopping to the side due to no path( maybe the constant cars flying past was due to the poor weather with holiday makers driving more than walking) Great base for adults but not a young family . Unlike many Lakeland Retreat stays we won't be returning. Hide

Great location in Ambleside, nice outside space with sound and views of Stock Gyhll Force waterfall. Apartment itself was very clean and cosy. All amenities were high quality, good brands. This added to the homely feel where the owners are clearly invested in their property and guest experience.

Great place for a small family holiday

Reviewed by Barry 21st December 2024

This was a great place for us to spend Christmas. Admittedly we were two but the place had loads space for four people. Kitchen had more than enough crockery and cutlery and loads of pans and baking trays to cook our Christmas meal. Bathrooms were more than big enough and lovely and warm. Some of the sealant could do with replacing but it didn't deRead moretract from the positives. We would suggest removing the shelf over the sink in the en-suite as it's was easy to knock ones head when brushing teeth. The walk into town took five mins and there are loads of accessible walks from Ambleside. We highly recommend a Friday night 'top notch meal' at Zeffirellis accompanied by live music. A great stay. Would heartily recommend. LAKELAND RETREATS REPLIED: Thank you for your lovely review. We've replaced the sealent and will take a look at the shelf. So pleased you had a great stay and hope to see you again soon! Hide

The apartment looked just like the photos, the walk into town was easy, coming back was a little more difficult as it was uphill. Some great local walks and excellent restaurants.

Great location with easy walk in to the town of Ambleside but very quiet and peaceful. We loved having the river running along the back. Nice big patio area to sit out in the sun. The surrounding area of the lakes is beautiful and this is a great point from which to explore.
