A bright, airy retreat, this welcoming getaway at the heart of Ambleside could suit families or couples on a Lake District escape. Sleeping six guests, the three-bedroom, three-storey hideaway is conveniently positioned for the market town's independent shops, pubs and eateries, as well as for getting out and about in the wider national park. Discover more about the history of the town at the Armitt Museum, Gallery and Library, 500 metres away, and the Ambleside Roman Fort, less than 1 mile away. Walk from here along the shores of Windermere and beside the River Rothay. Board a lake cruise from nearby Waterhead, also less than 1 mile from the cottage. The National Trust's beautiful Stagshaw Garden is also in this area, a 1.5-mile drive from your base and a riot of colour in the spring and summer months. Take in the magical views out over Windermere from Jenkyn's Crag here.

Cross the front garden to let yourself into the smart townhouse. Step inside to find a thoughtfully presented home with an air of space and quality. Featuring natural stone, beams and plantation shutters, the property manages to be both characterful and stylish, with an ambience that is friendly and relaxing. The ground-floor accommodation centres on an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, with a cosy lounge end, where you can settle on the light sofas to watch TV or a DVD as the wood burner glows in the background. Flick through the guidebooks and decide on your adventures for the rest of your stay. Head over to the kitchen/diner end of the light space to conjure up the next delicious meal in the fully equipped kitchen. Gather round the table here too to dine and engage in lively conversation. There is also a convenient utility room with laundry facilities. When you are inclined to recuperate ready for the following day's fun, climb the stairs to the upper levels of the house. A gorgeous king-size bedroom, with an en-suite shower room, a double bedroom and the family bathroom are all on the first floor, while a twin, with an en-suite WC is on the level above. All the bedrooms here have the luxury of a private TV for late night and early morning viewing. This cottage also comes with a useful heated drying room.

Choose whether to sit outside to the front or rear of the house, depending on where the sunshine is. You will find a table and chairs in each garden. The courtyard garden to the back of the cottage is enclosed and partly screened by trees. There is private parking here for three cars.

We have stayed at this property many times over the years. It is nice to see some updates with new kitchen and bathrooms, we love its central location and the parking. A very comfortable cosy property, which we would recommend.

Thank you so much! We have had the BEST time staying at The Nook! The property is everything that we needed it to be, whilst walking our 1st leg of the coast to coast path! We will be back next year to walk the 2nd leg. Are you able to move The Nook to Yorkshire for us in the meantime?

Lovely cottage right in the middle of Ambleside. Very well equipped and comfortable. Loved having the outdoor seating at the front, which really catches the sun. We didn't need to use the attic bedroom but those stairs are not for the faint-hearted! Ground floor and 1st floor were perfect for me and hubby, along with my 84yo mother.
