Walkers will be in their element with plenty of trails from the door, while cyclists also have many local options. Visit the picturesque nearby villages of Ambleside and Grasmere, both within 5 miles. At Ambleside, you can take a scenic boat trip on Windermere, or a gentle walk up Loughrigg Fell will reward you with panoramic views of the surrounding lake and fells. Grasmere is famous for Dove Cottage, where Wordsworth lived; while you're there, be sure to try the delicious local gingerbread. For a great family day out, head to Coniston Water, where you can enjoy kayaking or canoeing to Wild Cat Island, or, for rainy days, take a trip on the Haverthwaite Steam Railway. Both are within 15 miles.

This is an impressive cottage, set over three levels, with a contemporary, neutral palette and perfectly chosen, elegant decor and furnishings that create a country feel. Flagged floors on the ground floor set the tone as you enter via the rear of the property into the large, open-plan living space, which features a large dining table and a kitchen with all the appliances you need to rustle up some tasty treats. This is a lovely social space with plenty of natural light. In the lounge, your gaze will be drawn to the beautiful stone wall, which houses a warming open fire. Sink into the elegant, comfortable seating and relive the day's activities, or unwind with a book and a warm drink. The windows in the living space look out towards the river. In the evenings, gather together and watch a favourite family film on the Smart TV. Head up the stairs to the first floor, where you'll discover a lovely king size bedroom (can be two singles) to the rear of the cottage and a king-size bedroom to the front, with an en-suite shower and river views. The house features a beautiful and chic contemporary bathroom. The third bedroom, a double, is on the second floor. Whichever bedroom you choose, you're sure to sleep soundly, waking up to the charming country views that surround the property.

Step outside with a cool drink, relax, and enjoy the enclosed garden with strategically placed seating, where you can admire the sights and sounds of the river and its visiting wildlife. Private parking is available for two cars.

The house is clearly very popular with many holidaymakers. We loved it. It is right on the corner of the lane by the bridge and river and access to the wonderful Chester's shop and cafe and close to the pub- so extremely handy for breakfast, lunch and dinners too. (Reserve tables as it gets busy!) The garden means things are easier when travelling Read morewith dogs. The house is very easy to enjoy- lovely open space downstairs with slate floor and comfy chairs and big dining table. The stairs are quite steep- fine for us but I did think my mum wouldn't have managed them. As its a terraced cottage, the voices from the cottage next door can be heard clearly if the tv isn't on- so be aware they can hear you too! Overall, its a great place to stay and very handy for the Lakes. Parking for two cars on site and then by the river there is space too if you arrive early. (Check in time of 4pm meant we could spend the day walking and time our arrival for later. ) Hide
