Property code: OC-SZ537

For a family-friendly day out, board the La’al Ratty Steam Engine to the coast at Ravenglass (6 miles) or to Boot (2 miles). From Ravenglass, visit the Roman Bath House or Muncaster Castle and Gardens, or enjoy the network of great walks from Boot and reward your efforts with a treat in the cafe. Next to the beautiful Eskdale Valley is the valley of Wasdale, the heart of which is 8.5 miles away. Here, find England’s highest mountain and deepest lake and hop on some great walking trails or jump in Wastwater for a refreshing dip.

Make your way inside via the side door and head through the covered porch to the hallway. Leave boots and coats behind and find the family bathroom with WC handily located close by. With a shower over the bath, enjoy a relaxing soak to ease aching muscles, or freshen up quickly before dinner. The utility room has washing machine, tumble dryer and space to hang clothes so there is no need to worry if your walks get muddy. There is also a useful adjoining WC. For a spot of peace and quiet, there is a room with seating and a well-stocked bookcase or two. A stylish, spacious room, the kitchen/diner is equipped with an electric oven and induction hob, microwave, dishwasher and a large integrated fridge and separate integrated freezer. Choose your chef for the night and devour delicious meals at the table which boasts mountain views and has plenty of room for you all to dine together. After dinner, throw a log on the open fire or throw open the patio doors and get comfortable in the lounge. If you can tear your eyes away from the fabulous views, switch on the TV or put on your favourite DVD for a relaxing evening. When it’s time to say good night and rest your heads, make your way to one of three inviting bedrooms. Sitting on the ground floor, the super-king-size bedroom can be made up as a twin if requested at time of booking and is a lovely room in which to drift off. Upstairs, admire views through the large windows on the landing before finding the master bedroom with super-king-size bed which can also be made up as twin beds if requested on booking. Due to its position in the cottage, this room has sloping ceilings so do take care. The charming twin room also has quirky sloping ceilings and has a tranquil feel. The twin beds are adult-sized but low to the ground. The first-floor bedrooms can share the shower room with WC. Stair gates are provided for both the top and bottom of the stairs should you be holidaying with little ones.

Enjoy continuing your time in the great outdoors and take a seat in the garden which is enclosed for the safety of your canine companions. Sit with a drink under the pergola and watch the La’al Ratty steam engine chug past or lift your gaze to the top of the majestic fells. Part of the garage is available for guest use with a bike rack and an open wardrobe with shelves for other outdoor equipment.

Third time back at Underhow and it's a lovely as ever. This time we enjoyed a bonus roe deer with a fawn on the field in front. One of the best equipped cottages we've ever stayed in, always clean and comfortable. Eskdale in May is fab too.

We had a wonderful week despite the poor weather for May. The cottage was perfectly located to access Wastwater and the Western Fells. The house was spacious and the beds very comfortable. The showers and baths were good. We loved the views from the house and the boys particularly loved running out to wave to the train as it went past.

If you want a cosy cottage out the way this is the one, clean and well equipped. Narrow small road and turning in drive is bit tight but I'd 100% return, log fire was cosy at night and watching train from garden was good. I really can't say anything bad about this property

This is probably the best equipped cottage with the nicest view we have stayed in. We had a lovely relaxed stay but it was spoilt by how dirty the cottage was when we arrived! We spent the first hour on arrival cleaning, it hadn't even been hoovered. So we hoovered the whole cottage and even had to clean the bath out before we could use it. The freRead moreezer was full of old food and some of the bins still had bits of rubbish in them. It really needs a deep clean. Hide
